today had an update on the penalty killing success to this point with quotes from assistant coach John Chabot who credits the players on the back line and up front.

"As a coach you talk to the players all you want, but the players actually do the work to get things done," said Chabot. "The credit really should go to them for doing anything and everything to get the job done. There are not a lot of different things that can be done, but our guys have paid the price to be successful."

NYI Fan Central Comments:
Good update that brings up a stat many fans do not see in blocked shots and well deserved praise for Richard Park's ability to force defenders when shorthanded to the out side angles for a lower percentage shot. What Tampa and Carolina's Stanley Cup Championships said to me was it's not names on defense but chemistry among a unit.

Ct Post: Michael Fornabaio's blog this afternoon had a few interesting updates on some prospects among Mike Mole being sent to Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL. Eurohockey.net (a very good site for confirmed information on players in Europe) reports Masi Marjamaki playing back in his hometown Ässät Pori. Sergei Ogorodnikov going to Novokuznetsk, while former Islander prospect Ryan O'Marra was sent to the ECHL.

NYI Fan Central Comments:
For those who recall an earlier blog update here Ogorodnikov did not want to come to camp and the Islanders may have had to consider a buyout. It should be noted this site confirms he has been loaned from CSKA Moskva to Metallurg Novokuznetsk.

In the very former Islander department:
Former Islander Aleksandr Karpovtsev transferred from Sibir Novosibirsk to Avangard Omsk and Dimitri Nabakov is a confirmed transaction from Sibir Novosibirsk to unknown.

Funny thing prior to the new cba Islanders would have had Nabakov's prospect rights forever. I used to see some European players drafted by the club back in the Bill Torrey era still listed on protected lists as late as 2003 who never played an NHL game but who's NHL rights were listed as Islanders.
