NYI Fan Central Comments:
Very tough loss today and another game the Isles could not hold the lead, this time ahead 2-0 entering the third period. At least they added a point and avoided what would have been a disaster if they lost in regulation which almost happens if DiPietro does not rob Cory Larose right after they tied the game.

Bergeron and Gervais did not look too good today overall, some bad breaks but just not a lot of chemistry.

Not a ton of physical play on either side and a very choppy first period, too bad Park could not finish the play he knocked into Ward or Comrie could not hit the open net when the Canes goalie mishandled the puck. 3-0 I think would have finished the Canes or changed how they played which would have led to some odd-man rushes for the Isles.

Name of this game is adding points consistently, long unbeaten stretches in regulation like last year where they lost three regulation games in twenty is what they have to do but this was a game you expect two points.

It seemed like the kind of game the Islanders wanted to play where they kept the chances down and the pressure off. Two long shots on screens got by DiPietro and back to back penalties finished them in overtime with the Canes forward getting position on Martinek for a rebound. Not a bad team defensive effort considering how Carolina can score a lot of goals and was coming off a big effort.

Fedotenko's cross-check not called against Carolina and Sutton's is? Officials were not consistent there even though there has not been much to complaining about the officials for most of the season. Maybe the shot hitting Fedotenko had something to do with the non-call, but Martinek's call on Staal seemed weak in a game where not many penalties were called.

Of course going into the third nothing was called which begs the question. When the Isles finally got a chance to make it 3-0 against the league's worst pk, the Isles pp went nowhere.

Ward did not have to be very good in the third period. Comeau put on some nice displays carrying and holding the puck on one third period shift.

This time the boards gave the Islanders a goal with Andy Hilbert getting the bounce, after that Blake Comeau made a nice pass to Satan who put the Isles up 2-0, who was in Bergenheim's spot.

Satan's line had the only good chances in the third and skated well.

Classy show put on by the Isles again today with Colin Powell and another sellout on a very cold day.

Again, just not enough to win when they played well enough to get two points.

Both clubs meet again tomorrow.
