New York Islander Fan Central | 1/02/2009 05:56:00 PM

IIHF.com: Reports Slovakia defeated the US on Friday 5-3 which drops them out of the championship and places them in a Sunday consolation contest against the loser of Russia vs Czech Republic (Friday 7:30pm) which will be played on Sunday.

No goals/points for Blake Kessel in this game.

Slovakia plays Sweden on Saturday.
Canada plays Russia after defeating the Czech Republichere 5-1 with Kirill Petrov no points in this game.

NYI Fan Central Comments:
From what little I have read on team Russia Petrov is working his way back from an injury (I think it's a shoulder) and is just being spotted when Sergei Nemchinov shortens his bench in games. I did not see a single game boxscore where he played for Ak Bars before this tournament.

That means he went into the WJC with just four games before his injury.
