1980 Postgame New York Islanders First Cup Win

New York Islander Fan Central | 6/08/2009 07:09:00 AM
Today's audio's entry is a one of a kind but very poor and low quality so you will have to turn up whatever you listen to as high as possible. A channel five television special after the New York Islanders won the Stanley Cup in 1980 with some late 70's music in the television highlights but mostly player reaction.

This was a television program called Sports Extra that was recorded on audio cassette almost thirty years ago. Bill Mazer did the opening, John Dockery the interviews.

At the end of the program they showed playoff highlights to Frank Sinatra singing " Here's to the Winners " which I did not include.

Enjoy.

Friday Audio Message Experiment for NYIFC

New York Islander Fan Central | 6/05/2009 07:17:00 AM

I thought this would be a fun Friday experiment at NYIFC, an audio entry that had a brief summary of events regarding our hockey team that was more testing than anything else. It's not a return to writing but maybe something to consider moving forward that does not take up a lot of time.

This also means I can finally keep a promise from earlier this year which was to put some classic goals and parts of games from the 1981 playoffs and some other older stuff on audio. Parts of games three and four of the 81 Ranger sweep can now be posted in the future. I have only select parts of the two Msg wins in games three and four. If I recall correctly those were recorded off WMCA radio with Bob Lawrence
and Jean Potvin.

For day one how about the two short-handed goals (on one penalty) against Minnesota in game one of the 1981 Finals?

Enjoy.

NYIFC Will Remain For Visitors

New York Islander Fan Central | 6/03/2009 09:33:00 PM

Nothing dramatic and no plans of blogging however I have been updating the page for those interested in reading updates from NYIFC. Some changes (blog box removed at this time) twitter enhanced features added and 2009 Draft Section (including crawl) along with some peripheral articles included has been created with an enhanced search box for all archived updates.

Having written all this as long as the page remains visible I feel obligated it is kept up to date for all visitors and myself.

Also NYIFC prospect blog and roster section with signings, transactions, player status for 09-10 has and will continue to be updated in the near future.

Thank You.

Sweden 3, USA 2 WC Bronze Medal Game

New York Islander Fan Central | 5/10/2009 12:13:00 PM
IIHF.com: Reported Sweden defeated team USA 4-2 in the Bronze medal game at the World Championships.

Kyle Okposo did not score or register a point but had two shots through the second period. Former Islander Mattias Weinhandl assisted on all three goals for Sweden.

Updated:
IIHF.com: Reports Russia defeated Canada 2-1 to win the Gold medal.

This officially ends all blog entries at NYIFC. Nothing I can add that was not written on 4/17. Most likely in the upcoming weeks this blog will be set to private along with prospects blog.

Thanks Again.
