NY Notables/No Drama/Play Games/Then We'll Know |
The rest is just a lot of noise (even from opposing fans at Nassau/nothing new) in terms of on the ice. Off ice is something different, but will try & keep things separate.
Updated/No Changes.....NY Trade Deadline |
#Isles GM and President, Lou Lamoriello, speaks to the media following the trade deadline: pic.twitter.com/WoMWHFLJkI
— New York Islanders (@NYIslanders) February 25, 2019
Not much to write, all indications are Lamoriello & Trotz feel they have enough/or don't want to break the chemistry. Someone has to sit for whoever comes here, and you could make the fair point #14 does not belong in top six, but Ladd is going to return, Dal Colle is a call away, & Ho-Sang's done enough to come up to right side. We'll see but it's another day that LI crew want NYC decisions/spending.#NYI #isles Folks listened the last few weeks but did not hear. Lamoriello & Trotz both made clear often they liked the team they had.

Smith was added to prospect site with his 2-way deal.
#NYI #isles Anyone who's been following should have known long ago Seidenberg would get a pro-rated contract at the deadline, this was likely decided in camp. Unlikely he ever plays, but could not keep practicing without a deal. No roster limit so no harm.

Islanders give Webster Bank Arena to Oakview |
The @NYIslanders have selected Oak View Group to manage @Webster_Arena.

#NYI #isles The agreement in Bridgeport was from 2001-2021, it went from Boe/Centerplate to Wang in 2011 when he bought operation but all rights to operate building revert back to Bridgeport in 2021 when they can renegotiate, with any Sound Tiger obligation over.
— New York Islander Fan Central (@NYIFANCENTRAL) February 21, 2019
The standing agreement through 2021 is the arena operator (now Oakview) is required to supply an AHL team or better, it no longer has to be the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Oakview can bring in Dolan's Wolfpack or any AHL team they want. As for the rest of this the Islanders can sign any long-term agreement they want with Oakview, but unless they make a new agreement with Bridgeport in 2021, it does not matter.
#NYI #isles Funny how according to Baumbach, Dolan is no longer directly involved in Belmont but was the first to break Oakview grabbing Bridgeport from NYI? Sounds directly involved as ever w/Oakview to point this was timed to counter LIBN release or news Dolan does not like pic.twitter.com/f2CAinpGNf

New York Notables..... |
What will Lamoriello do at the deadline? Will they win division? Even make playoffs? 7/8 points, between first-ninth, with Carolina/Pittsburgh & Philadelphia almost unbeatable. All I can write is what's been repeated often here. It's too early, too much hockey left to play.
Wish NYI had thirteen point edge they would have in 16 team playoff/west seed. They don't. Tampa is the only team that does.
One bad week, changes a lot, two bad weeks puts them outside. All the winning is helping them hold their spot, it's not doing anything to change the discussion in the other direction which we all want.
The schedule coming up gives them almost no two-day break after this.
I'm not of the mindset to make any changes because the chemistry here is special. They have an excellent defense that's only getting better/some players just starting, & prospects that under this coach/management will produce some star talent.
If they get injuries, think talent is here/Bridgeport, to make up for it. Ho-Sang when he's on can step in & help after his big weekend, guess Dal Colle will go back for Ladd/or not, he should not sit much longer.
Beyond that, play the games. Calgary x2, Toronto 2/28, & Washington on 3/1, will be very tough opposition, and no such thing as an easy night in this league vs anyone.
Boring but honest. Keep working.
New York Playoff Update/Quick Comment |
#Isles News: Islanders Announcement Regarding The 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs: https://t.co/TRfoTZHMWv— New York Islanders (@NYIslanders) February 15, 2019
Not on board with this, but not my decision. For whatever my thoughts about Nassau County, and it's failings for decades due to apathetic fans, you don't take a team out of a building for almost 70 days, then expect them to just pick things up, and call it home ice advantage. Same reason if team was playing all it's game at Barclay's, you don't move them back to Nassau, and stop your own momentum.
Ok, now we know, if they qualify, the NHL spoke loud & clear. Nassau is not suitable. They never should have set such a schedule to vacate Barclay's for this duration. Laura Curran, should have knocked off her cyber-bully act with Bettman & paid up the difference, who no doubt is very unhappy with Nassau having tickets available on gamedays & Cuomo should have had his check book out like he does for Dolan if he wanted playoffs in Nassau to pay the difference in revenue.
Just makes me think more & more Belmont is only about what Azoff/Dolan want for the 110 days Oakview will have it's acts & NYI will be the 41-day hidden tenant once we are done being used as pawns to get a shovel in the ground.
Quick Comment: If Marc Berner at the Horse Racing Journal wants to do his act on me, could care less. But there are these things called facts/research. All Coliseum bids were for a massively downsized renovation, including Dolan's, who's bid was for his AHL team playing there for good. As for his concrete in the toilet stories, produce some images or stick to the horses.
#NYI #isles It's very easy for those interested to go back to 2013 & read exactly why Nassau County picked Ratner bid over Dolan. Ratner's estimated 13,000 fixed seats became 13,900 for hockey. Dolan wanted to make Coliseum his AHL home for good. https://t.co/USH0I1tyWG pic.twitter.com/d5fmRsysPl— New York Islander Fan Central (@NYIFANCENTRAL) February 16, 2019
And there is that inconvenient thing called the lease which says 10 luxury boxes or combined suites & specific language who pays for plumbing during the entire lease duration.
Lamoriello's History/Looking Ahead Pt II |
Not much to write since last update, beyond Flyers/Panthers not much changed, NY playing numbers, even doing above expectations but east owns west. Still driven by Trotz comments earlier team was year or two away from being top of conference team yearly & likely would not win in playoffs. Sorry, don't expect chemistry changes unless things dramatically change, this group gave up their offense & bought in, an outsider facing UFA likely will not. The magic number is 43 to qualify vs Carolina, still too much hockey to play, and you leave that defense alone for a good three years.
How Lamoriello worked with Leafs in a playoff run. Don't expect much.
#NYI #isles For those interested in Lamoriello's trade history with playoff Leafs prepare to win/lose based on who's here. pic.twitter.com/HXzoYPmP4i— New York Islander Fan Central (@NYIFANCENTRAL) February 13, 2019
