Patrick Roy Must Go

Now we know why no NHL team rang Patrick Roy's phone.

He was a 500. coach besides one year, now he's here, his statements, line combinations, and criticism of the best goalie in the NHL are major red flags. Sorokin has faced the most shots in the NHL, made the most saves, of course he's tired/struggling, and getting little help from a forward group that is old/slow/can't backcheck or kill penalties. The shots against have declined under Roy but you see it every game with the NYI goals coming off point shots, on defense the players beat on walls because forwards slow, leave passing lanes open, and have a powerplay that looks lost beyond the rare game the other team pulls a no-show. (Winnipeg for two periods before 17-3 shots against in third)
As for Mr Roy his comments back to day one have been odd, after no-show loses praising his team which even had Dolan's Msg puppets reacting like he was clueless. Criticism of Sorokin, which is absurd from a man who walked out on the Habs during a game forever, and should know public criticism of a man who's carried this team for three seasons is not warranted in any way. Without Sorokin they are 14th-15th for the last three seasons.

So now all three career centers are playing wing so Pageau can eat minutes and produce nothing but slow/soft coverage, and now awful/declining Cizikas is a first line wing?

Lane Lambert did not deserve a pink slip, but it was the final thing that could be tried to shake things up, change the voice. Patrick Roy is far worse, bad challenges, odd statements, reasonable benchings of Engvall/everyone. Sorokin is the last player on this roster who should be called out by his coach, he signed here drama-free last summer (vs Tavares) and did not sign up for no help/weak offense, and a team that can't hold a lead because the identity line/others got old three years ago.

Roy is not responcible for the roster, but his lineups/message are too strange/unconventional with his leadership. He got his assistant coach after an odd stretch getting him here. Like Travis Green this should have been an interim hire or Lamoriello should not have called Roy at all.

No coach fixes what's wrong here, but Roy can/has made it worse in many ways, it was a poor hire beyond the talent, and already clearly it's time for him to go but supposedly Lou signed another person long-term (Engvall, Mayfield) who clearly is part of the problem.

Patrick Roy must go.

New York Needs 10/12

Seriously, how many times can we take the teams temperature, great they won seven straight, but anyone who followed knew the many weaknesses would catch up with them, and they would fall back, and they did. Too old/slow/not skilled, and stuck in tons of bad contracts, they made no effort to go after Duclair at the deadline who Tampa gobbled up and got production from. It's a miracle pitch and putt Palmieri has scored a bunch given he's a 30 game scorless streak waiting to happen between not back-checking. I'm happy Clutterbuck gave them two goals, and beat Winnipeg but little spent the third period pinned in their zone giving up tons of shots. The Jets know NYI faults, and even though they did not come back, everyone knows no lead is safe. Ok, so we wait a few weeks, and see if they can hang around.

New York Signs Cam Thiesing

Please note-the prospect site does not list any ATO at Bridgeport as signed because they did not sign NHL contracts. Alex Jefferies has to be given an NHL contract by NYI to update that site.

Failed Belmont Experiment Is Ending/NYI Never Should Have Left Barclays

Our team never should have left Barclays, a flawed arena (that could always be renovated) with a NYC base of fans, more revenue, better transit which got them off the cap floor, and finally ended the 23 years of playoff failure. It worked in 2015-16, and would only have continued to improve same as leaving the suburbs improved many teams like Caps. Dolan's people at Newsday & in politics did everything they could to prosecute Barclays after the 1st playoffs by appealing to people who could not fill 1/2 the Nassau Coliseum for most of 35 years even with cheap tickets. It failed, win or lose, and it failed again in 2018-19-20 going back to an even smaller building.
Dolan wanted his Nassau Coliseum II which he lost to Ratner in 2013, owned Cuomo, and NYI as a tenant at Belmont had to happen for it to be approved. Belmont was never for the tenant NYI it was for Dolan to get his Nassau Coliseum, and take the events.

Now here we are in 2024, Dolan/Oakview don't want to pay NYI anymore to be a tenant and all that Islanders arena garbage turned out to be the scam, I told you countless times, we were a lame duck by the time the shovel hit the ground, and it was a matter of when Dolan decided to use his media to create the narrative everyone knew, that arena was in the wrong location, and never meant for NYI. Just events, NYRA, Oakview, and to make the Coliseum useless. Now we have Leiweke who raved about revenue saying the location the NHL just gave the 2026 all-star game is a ten year project. Malkin will be selling as soon as his late, hidden retail opens to no attention (it's been as hidden as NYI) and no one wants to walk a mile from the LIRR to a high end shopping mall who's parking garage was for retail/not hockey games.

I expect more ownership changes, the money NYI were given to go there ending, and the team with an 86.25 million lease buyout being used by the next owners. I wish the team would return home to Barclay's, but even Joe Tsai wants to sell part of his Nets stake, and the change to put an arena in Queens was rejected because for Dolan it was Belmont, or nothing, no inside New York.

The same Long Island loser fans who never went after 1989 win or lose at any price (or for free) will continue to stay home, and add more fuel to the narrative Dolan just started in his newspaper to stop paying us to be there, or the cable contract.

And NYCFC will get the location we needed to move to that was not accepted to Cuomo/Dolan where the bulk of our fans are. During 2015-16 the LIBN made clear the RFP for Belmont was rigged, ther were never any options for Malkin/Wilpon to exlore, it was Belmont or nothing on Dolan/Cuomo orders. Barclay's wanted NYI to stay without paying them which could be what happens now at Belmont but it's a non-starter for a team likely losing millions with the money they were given to go there.

New York streak/puts them for now in a spot but.....................

Lamoriello Done: No deals

Nope Jason Zucker, Duclair and some other players could not outscore the 3/4th line players not scoring here. Funny Tampa traded for Duclair, and now we have to beat them out if the bounces off point shots continue. They needed to put some speed on 3rd/4th lines and get anyone to replace ping pong Pageau, and pitch and putt Palmieri who got some bounces lately. I don't think they have enough but they won five straight, it must continue. It will take 13+ over, more then last year. And no one with a NTC was going to waive it for that awful Gila River Arena failed experiment at Belmont, that added stadium series to the attendance.

New York at the trade deadline

Claire Arbour RIP:

She enjoyed watching hockey until her final days and continued to watch nearly every NHL game. She was particularly dedicated to - and vocal about -rooting for her beloved New York Islanders.
