Every single year. That's how it used to be. Realistic or not, that's why the games are played.
As for myself my perference for or against owners/managers/players ect is to that end alone based on their performance. If a guy like Pageau came here and continued his 24 goal run in Ottawa or had four goal playoff games I would have been on board with his contract, but that has not happened, and you can go up and down the lineup. We have seen all of these players get far more then a fair chance, and aside from a few have not helped this team have the success needed. Meanwhile this franchise lost four years of Devon Towes at sixteen million/Eberle to pay Pageau to score one goal before in his first seven games in 2020 as NYI lost their playoff spot, and he got rewarded for this? Same with Palmieri who at best is a streaky scorer, and at worst is a liability in all three ends of the ice. Cizikas had his twenty goals, anyone watching knew you don't give him six years based on his prior years. Nice people? Ok, not interested in that. Win games/win the cup. It's been 42 years, other teams win Stanley Cups, and are serious contenders for periods of time with managements who constantly add players with real potential to help to their mix. I'm not talking covid tournaments. I watch the games, see how the players produce or give the team a chance to win, and base my views upon that. I don't do metrics of any kind. If Drouin had twenty goals I would be a big fan of the signing, when preseason began and he was barely moving it seemed there was a big problem.
In my view for example saw nothing why Tsyplakov deserved to sit for about seven other players who largely struggled, and merited more then a benching but a trip to waivers, now he's on a team with skilled forwards, if he was beaten out for a spot by the players here they all were given a fair chance to keep their spots over him. I did not see that. No, this is not about one player.
If Darche wanted a thirty four year old, and wanted more goals and a bad contract, Evander Kane, was there off his twenty goals last season? Instead they pay six million for the thirty four year old Devils forward, who works hard and does not score. We already had Travis Zajac here.
Are you going to ask Darche about Bridgeport?
