Our final poll which has been up for a while and will go until the final weekend home games ask you to select among a bunch of players for the Bob Nystrom award.

Newsday: John Jeansonne has head coach Scott Gordon's comments he never felt he was losing his players during the losing streaks in December/January and that the recent play has helped the team building process. The coach also praised his veterans as the coach has given more opportunities to younger players because of the clubs record. NYI Fan Central Comments: Are we missing something here?
Granted Mr Jeansonne is going to have a negative theme to his questions but where has Guerin or Weight's opportunities been cut with them on every first powerplay unit and seeing a regular shift along with Richard Park a powerplay regular?
Doug Weight made it clear recently if he was contributing he expected to be on the ice.
NY Post: Dan Martin's only real difference from Mr Jeansonne's article was a few words from Mike Comrie about gaining experience and the big picture. NYI Fan Central Comments: The big picture is other than Guerin-Comrie-Weight being put together as a line the youth movement has taken a hit with Jeff Tambellini being benched without a reporter getting a single word from the head coach on the subject.
NY Times: Brian Heyman has a feature on Islanders captain Bill Guerin who was praised by Scott Gordon for his leadership in tough times as the captain talks about his season, the no trade clause while Kyle Okposo, Josh Bailey and Doug Weight credited Guerin for what he has done for them.
General manager Garth Snow discussed Guerin's NTC after saying he's a New York Islander and praised his value with the younger players.
NYI Fan Central Comments: As Guerin said, never say never if the Islanders come to him with the right trade or circumstances but I think a trade is unlikely.
AP: Ronald Blum reports Bob Nystrom was among the clients who invested with Bernard Madoff, according to a court filing released Wednesday night.
The family of Lighthouse co-developer Scott Rechler also had a limited exposure here with Cablevision on the list of 14,000 who were caught up in this according to Newsday here.
St Pete Times: Damian Cristodero reports once again forward Jussi Jokinen was placed on waivers. GM Brian Lawton said he has had contact with another team that expressed interest in Jokinen. We will find out at noon Thursday whether he was claimed. If not, Lawton said Jokinen and his $1.875-million salary will be shipped to AHL Norfolk.
Newsday: Former Ranger beatwriter Arthur Staple tells us the Rangers are in trouble. not Islanders trouble, but our two local teams aren't playing for the same thing right now. NYI Fan Central Comments: Since when is a team covered by Newsday that plays in Manhattan " our local team " given the city papers do not extend the same courtesy to the Islanders with Larry Brooks pushing our team out of NYC market every chance he can and the other papers editors providing token coverage at best.
Nothing like the paper being owned by the other team telling us we have two teams which is why Arthur Staple was shifted to hockey.
Plenty of pressure on the Islanders win or lose, btw.

A defender will be recalled from the ECHL to replace Jack Hillen/Joe Callahan.
Newsday: Greg Logan begins his coverage where he left off the last few days with his DiPietro speculation game as Bill Guerin and head coach Scott Gordon talked about his teams penalties and the opportunities for Joey MacDonald and Yann Danis.
MacDonald was disappointed his club did not get the bounces.
Greg Logan unfortunately struck again in the middle of the night on early Tuesday with another long blog in the Islanders Newsday space essentially complaining about the injury policy and Monday's release on DiPietro as we got more on his injury speculation game here even going back to how the goaltenders concussions were announced in 06-07.
Afterward our fans finally got a few words about the game with Scott Gordon's comments.
NYI Fan Central Comments: That's kind of funny Mr Logan writes with all the focus on DiPietro’s injury there was no room in today’s newspaper for a few other interesting comments.
Doesn't he mean all of his focus on DiPietro's injury?
Considering how well some of the young players performed they deserved a few words in the paper but Mr Logan is very upset with the injury policy and our fans pay for that. I thought this was about the fans need to know but it's clearly about his need to know along with issues he has with DiPietro.
I guess our beat writer will not even let us know about the game very much as part of his next policy change, all in the name of our fans.
Sorry folks. I absolutely would like to take the coverage in another direction but this is where the articles go and I am not writing them.
It's absolutely not where I wish they would go either.
I'm as tired of Mr Logan's act with this as everyone else is by now and as I have written the Islanders are doing what a lot of pro teams do with the policy, there is nothing ground breaking with what the club is doing here.
At this point Mr Logan should have his editor talk for him and keep our fans out of the middle.
Days like this I would not mind one bit if Newsday went paid subscription only.
Newsday: Mr Logan's other article was basically a blog reprint of the situation with Doug Weight and Brandon Sutter which head coach Scott Gordon also comments on.
Newsday: Mark Herrmann does what he does best and that's play the Islanders viability game once again telling us the club could be moving without a single word on the subject from anyone who would be involved in any such decision and that the days in the Islander-Ranger rivalry could be numbered. Bill Guerin comments on the loss along with a few softballs for Ranger coach Tom Renney.
NYI Fan Central Comments: Welcome to how the Newsday staff fights back and kicks a team when it's down. Not pretty or very professional from Mr Herrmann who always has his Ranger pomp poms out.
It's sad but this is what our coverage is these days. Not another goal from Mark Streit or a defense that is scoring goals with half the backline out or Scott Gordon's system producing chances we did not see last year along with a faster Islander team.
It's only been a few weeks since Mr Herrmann did his latest Islander viability dance which is into double-digits over the last year for almost any possible reason for him to bring it up. His act has gotten very old on this subject having to take an extra kick at the club and it's fans after a tough loss or when good news happens like Al Arbour night he makes it all about the club trying to sell tickets.
It's done to upset the fans and play for the worst.
I guess the young players like Kyle Okposo and how well they played last night just was not a story if he wanted to write about the future so much.
Newsday: Mr Herrmann's other article made sure to get the word fishing in the first sentence with regard to the Islanders new retro uniforms with Bob Nystrom and Josh Bailey praising the new look.
NYI Fan Central Comments: Those jersey's look fantastic, just make them the full time uniform starting next year along with bringing back the same in white.

NY Post: Dan Martin's very limited space article was all about DiPietro and the clubs injuries with Bill Guerin's comments, nothing on the game beyond the score here. Larry Brooks of all people to point how out the Islanders were taking the play at the Rangers for a good part of the game here.
Daily News: Peter Botte had Bill Guerin's comments about the Islanders having to stay in their system and his quotes on DiPietro's absence.
NYI Fan Central Comments: Mr Botte wins my personal pool of what writer would first mention the team in it's early seventies look could finish with a similar record.
AP: Ira Podell's recap of the game includes the Islanders announced that D Brendan Witt would miss three to four weeks with an undisclosed injury while the Canadian Press here reports Rick DiPietro incurred a lower body injury Saturday night unrelated to his previous injuries and is day to day pending additional assessment and treatment. Freddy Meyer sat out Monday due to an abdominal strain.
Islanders website: John Hill has a very early Saturday am update on the Isles at the prospects combine with comments from Ryan Jankowski, the Islanders Assistant GM/Director of Amateur Scouting on the process and what the club is looking for.
National Post: Michael Traikos also had a few words from Mr Jankowski in an article on the defenseman defining the draft class after the first selection.
NHL.com: Evan Weiner does a feature on Bobby Nystrom and his Stanley Cup winning goal in 1980 against Philadelphia and asked the legendary player if taking a misconduct on a hot day helped get him a rest?
Toronto Star : Rick Westhead claims a secret document on NHL revenue shows the six Canadian teams account for thirty one percent of the $1.1 billion (U.S.) in league ticket revenue with the Isles among eight clubs that generated less than half the amount of ticket revenue of the Edmonton Oilers and Ottawa Senators with the Coyotes generating the least ticket revenue of any club.
NYI Fan Central Comments: The fans had to sit out an entire year for this agreement, both sides agreed to full disclosure and there is revenue sharing so why not simply release the full accounting of each team from an independent arbitrator without secret documents leaking to the media?
If the Canadian dollar is strong of course they are going to take in more revenue along with markets that increase the price of tickets. In many markets this still does not offset the huge overhead to run a franchise in places like New York where many things are more expensive.
Note the pdf file included says the Isles revenue from ticket sales went from five hundred thousand per game to five hundred fifty thousand per game. Seems estimated in many teams cases or at the very least rounded off.
Many of these reports come off like fabricated Msg/Versus press releases on television ratings or announced attendance at games off Espn links. It's practically as bad as all the folks who take the Forbes yearly estimate released around December as gospel even though they have no access to any teams books.
My point being with a lack of credible information folks will believe anything that anyone says or writes.

USA Today.com: Kyle Woodlief of Red Line Report profiled the top fowards in the draft with Stamkos, Filatov a cut above the rest.

Newsday: Neil Best who has the media beat reports New York finished with a 1.6 rating for game three of the finals which was 34th among 56 major markets and claims it must be baseball season.
NYI Fan Central Comments: It's always baseball season in New York, Mr Best. This is why your paper needs to put in more New York Islander coverage and lower Ranger content in the paper but you only seem to be interested in your favorite team, it's hurt local interest in the sport across the board.
What's funny is folks like Mr Best will be the first ones telling us his Rangers in the finals will be good for the sport but here is Detroit-Pittsburgh and New York could care less.
So why will it be different for other markets if a New York area team did make a final if New York is thirty sixth for a great matchup like this?
Daily News: Ranger reporter John Dellapina who has been selling the Rangers at Yankee Stadium since day one has Bill Daly's comments the big meeting regarding this will take place next week which involves the Mayor's office. The article says NBC wants no part of the Isles involvement or a local matchup and that being excluded could anger the club.
NYI Fan Central Comments: Keep sending e-mails to Mayor Bloomberg folks if you want the New York Islanders involved because it's down to the Mayor's office and a meeting next week. If Mr Ebersol, Dellapina, Flood and the Garden do not want the Isles in that game let them pick another city. Isles put in all the work for this and should not only be in the event but the host New York team as the championship hockey tradition in New York Hockey.
Finally nothing new on the Ridderwall-Johansson front.

St.nu spors: Elite prospects.com has this as a doubtful rumor but does have an article from a newspaper a few days ago on Frans Nielsen going to Timrå.
NYI Fan Central Comments: Take it with a major grain of salt but it is an article from a newspaper with what appears to be a professional writer which is the criteria I use reading rumors. I cannot even tell you what it says and eliteprospects has Yashin's rumors right next to it and lists this as doubtful. This could be a Bruce Garroich kind of article but what's notable is it's about Nielsen.
Having written that all I do know is Frans Nielsen may have to play in the NHL next season or be close to a situtation where he needs to be exposed to waivers to play for Bridgeport.
A little spring dancing between Bob Nystrom and Mike Milbury and one amazing fight with Mel Bridgeman. I used to love Tim Ryan's work on channel nine calling Islander hockey. If I have the time line correct, Mr Ryan was replaced by Steve Albert in 1980 before Bill Torrey contacted Jiggs McDonald for 1981.
I have to admit I do not know who is doing the play by play here unless it's George Michael of Sportsmachine fame.
I know for a short time John Potvin was in and how of the booth in his Islander career before going into the radio side after his official retirement. John Sterling also did play by play on WMCA radio in those day for the Isles.
