COUNTDOWN TO NYI CAMP: The Defense

New York Islander Fan Central | 9/10/2007 04:23:00 PM |
Islandes Website this afternoon announced the list of defenders who will be in camp with the club along a paragraph on each player on where they may fit in the Islanders lineup which is more the writers speculation and nothing official from Snow or Nolan.

Bryan Berard-Tryout basis.
Marc-Andre Bergeron
Chris Campoli
Drew Fata
Jamie Fraser

Martin Frechette
Born: July 11, 1986 -- Sherbrooke, QC
Height: 6'
Weight 200
Shoots: Right

Frechette earned a minor league contract with the Islanders after showing he had skills while participating at the 2007 Islanders Prospects Camp.

Bruno Gervais
Considering the number of defensemen with one-way NHL contracts already on the team and the possibility of signing Berard, Gervais' two-way contract could make the blueline scenario very interesting.

Jordan Hart
Born: Feb. 18, 1983 -- Huntington, NY
Height: 6'2
Weight: 200

The son of former Islanders defenseman Gerry Hart, Jordan recently signed a minor league contract with the Islanders after an impressive showing as a walk-on at the Islanders Prospects Camp this summer.

Aaron Johnson
Mark Katic
Dustin Kohn
Kohn signed an entry level contract this summer with the Islanders.

Simon Lacroix
Lacroix will return to Shawinigan this season, but should get a valuable experience up in Moncton.
Andrew MacDonald
Radek Martinek
Freddy Meyer
Matthew Spiller
Andy Sutton
Brendan Witt

NYI Fan Cenral Comments:
I highlighted a few players who were quietly signed out of prospect camp like Frechette and Jordan Hart here and it's worth noting here the Islanders do have an option to send down Bruno Gervais without exposing him to waivers.
