Islanders website: Report Chris Campoli is out for the season with shoulder surgery and Freddy Meyer has signed a two year extension with the club through 2009-2010. Ted Nolan comments on Campoli, Garth Snow on Meyer.

NYI Fan Central Comments:
Devastating loss for the club to lose Campoli for the season given how well he has played this year and the progress he was making.

Now I know why Freddy Meyer's comments on NHL.com the other day were about bringing back the same core as if he was automatically going to return or the club would want him back.

Mixed reactions on this signing with Sutton, Campoli, Witt, Martinek and likely Gervais signed to Campoli's extension sooner or later and a younger player like Johnson to say nothing of Mark Katic and Dustin Kohn.

Meyer was put on waivers by the Isles, not claimed and now the Isles are locked in for another two years after this?

Sometimes you have to save a spot for a top level defender in free agency or a player who is better. Meyer's had a good few weeks but was that worth a two year commitment?

Islanders want to impress me here they should resign Bergenheim and take away a potential Gandler problem if he's still his agent and see if something can be done with Hunter, Comrie and the other UFA. If you have a core locked up on July 1st that's what impresses UFA.

Newsday: Greg Logan updated Newsday's blog on both moves with Garth Snow's comments and speculates this means Marc-Andre Bergeron will not be traded. A few words on why Dubielewicz is starting today are also included.
