Islanders website video of selection with player/father comments: New York Has Selected Kieffer Bellows.
Islanders Head Amateur Scout Vellu Kautonen: Kieffer had a great year with the U18 team. This kid likes to shoot the puck and he shoots it well too. 50 goals in 62 games is sure something you don’t see happening too often. He also helps his team without the puck as well. Bellows plays with an edge and can throw some punishing hits. “Kieffer can score from 40-feet, he can score inside the dots,” TSN analyst Bob McKenzie said of Bellows on NBCSN. “He’s got a real understanding of where he needs to go to get the puck and (can) read off of a centerman to be in that spot. And when it’s on his stick, it’s in the net – the goalie doesn’t stand a chance. Then you combine it with a real determination. He wants to score. He’s hungry to score. It’s not easy to score in the National Hockey League. You gotta get inside the dots and you gotta be ready to pay the price – Kieffer does exactly that.”
