New York where they deserve to be in standings/Notables |
Many did not have their eyes opened and happily jumped on the cups finals bandwagon, ignoring the struggles in the 56 games with Leddy, Eberle. Now they are much older, slower, and this coach is going to sink with these veterans. The standing scream it's been over for a long time.
As for the failed Belmont experiment with fictional sellouts, that came to an end as 15,000 looked like around 10,000. Apparently Charles Wang needed a second ceremony, and a plaque that should have been up opening night with the others, as arena construction is still not done.

Clark Gillies knows all about battles and being there for his teammates, both on and off the ice.

That’s why he fights for his dear friend, Mike Bossy. ๐#NHLAlumni | #HockeyFightsCancer pic.twitter.com/E28hQSKRMg
41 years ago today, Mike Bossy made history for the @NYIslanders when he became the second player ever to score his 50th goal in the first 50 games of the season. ๐ pic.twitter.com/b1Py1UuGJq

Gillies tributes are being posted on the historical site. For the rest of this season #9 will replace #22 who is still there but moved over as the cup banners go into storage. We hope for the best while Mike Bossy's undergoes cancer treatments. Gillies tribute to Bossy for hockey fights cancer this year is very sad, as Gillies died after a short fight with cancer. Gillies was very active around the team at every event, as late as opening night.
The true downside of continuing this site was knowing people pass away. It was rough with Al Arbour even being in poor health knowing the time was coming. Bill Torrey's sudden passing, the loss of J.P Parise, John Pickard, Randy Boyd last week, Charles Wang, all past alumni.

“He was bigger than life. When you saw Clark Gillies, you thought Islander. There was no doubt. He played the right way, he was part of the community. Everything you think about being an Islander. My heart dropped when I was told. He will be missed. He really will.”

NYIFC Comments:
No words for this. Devastating. This was an active man, who was always present at the games, who seemed far younger then his age.
#NYI #isles Every fan of this franchise was touched by this man, before the cups, during them, after his career, he was always a part of this franchise. It's just devastating, he'll be greatly missed.
— #22 New York Islander Fan Central (@NYIFANCENTRAL) January 22, 2022
#NYI #isles I remember him before the cups, in 78-79 when he was captain & they won their first regular season championships, what he did in 1975 to Dave Schultz, to O'Reilly, to Hospidar. This man to his day was always larger then life around this franchise, humble, nice man.

#NYI #isles All these years, and Gillies was such a part of the NYI family it was like he never retired, it will never be the same without him.

Playoffs Not Realistic For New York |
Washington is not even playing well, and easily dominated NY at 5/5 a week ago, the goalie has to keep them in every game, and this team flat out cannot score to win at level necessary with an old/decling roster. Even a team in a free fall like Flyers largely outplayed them.

Randy Boyd R.I.P |
The #Isles are incredibly saddened by the news of Randy Boyd passing away. Boyd played 85 games for the Islanders during the 1985-86 and 1986-87 seasons.

Updated Schedule/Comments |
#Isles News: The National Hockey League announced updates to the remainder of the 2022 regular season schedule.
— New York Islanders (@NYIslanders) January 19, 2022
#NYI #isles Basically the plan for NHL/NYI we are getting every payday for all 82 games & we'll relax covid restrictions to make it happen because testing means not enough available players.
— #22 New York Islander Fan Central (@NYIFANCENTRAL) January 20, 2022
#NYI #isles Go play 50 games in 99 days, find a way to gain 14 points to win the 8th seed from a group that can't win any games easily because they can't score with vets too old/declining, are over their heads against top teams & on the road can't beat any top team. Sorry. Nope.
— #22 New York Islander Fan Central (@NYIFANCENTRAL) January 20, 2022
#NYI #isles There is nothing to discuss regarding playoff contention for the NYI this season. And what Carolina did to red-hot Boston is playoff reality for the 8th seed in this year in this conference. They played the Caps in a slump and were dominated handily at 5/5.
— #22 New York Islander Fan Central (@NYIFANCENTRAL) January 19, 2022
#NYI #isles Lou did not want to make the hard choices to say goodbye to Bailey, never sign Pageau, Cizikas, Martin, Palmieri, Chara, Parise, to pay Eberle, Leddy, and Toews who they needed much more, and that's how you stay out of playoffs for a long, long time.

The playoff math does not lie, as expected they are so far out of the 8th seed, any realistic contention is not going to happen, plus this NYI team is frankly terrible. Too old/slow/lack scoing, but for now we'll see some games.

Trotz Return Uncertain at this time |
Team will practice as they get healthy with Lane Lambert and one other coach available, but no rescheduled games at this time plus standings don't lie playing for what is only one seed at eight points behind Boston with no games in hand.
#NYI #isles Last night was another nightmare in the standings, Boston is now the 8th seed with an 8 point lead/even games played. Pittsburgh in 7th is 15 points ahead, and not catch able.
