New York Notables

New York Islander Fan Central | 7/31/2022 09:43:00 PM |

I wanted to let the folks who come here, that unless the New York Islanders officially disclose a transaction, it's not going to be posted here or on our social media. Simply put unless things are done like 31 teams do business, we are all going to wait. Lou Lamoriello until 2020-21 did not operate in this manner during his management career. He can explain to his boss, Scott Malkin, why fans won't purchase any tickets to games in a location that 31 other teams would not go to if given the chance. I don't need to see the minority owner in Manhattan giving away lottery tickets, only the President/general manager do to his job like his counterparts. No more/no less.

Frankly if Mr Lamoriello wants to hide his contract signings this much, his own players in Clutterbuck/Parise did not need their new contracts announced at the trade deadline if his own players were on-board with this strategy.

Lambert hires another assistant coach

Brian Wiseman apparently is not joining the organization.

Bottom Line: These are your 2022-23 New York Islanders

Not writing a lot here because we have our team. I'm not expecting any moves besides them waiting on Chara or Greene so Salo goes back to Europe with his three year deal. Hutton's here to stay he got his three years, Aho got two more years to watch when his skating is NHL quality but he does not play enough to avoid some mistakes.

If they opened season with 3-6, 8-Mayfield, Romanov-Hutton-Aho-Salo I'm good with that if Sorokin-Varlamov is goaltending.

Offensively they have 32nd best 1st line RW in Palmieri, the 32nd best second like RW in Bailey, the 32 best third line LW in Parise as he turns 38. A fourth line with too much age/mileage in decline and Bellows watching with Johnston who belongs in Bridgeport.

The only reason they were not 14th last season was goaltending, now most of the teams behind them who have been rebuilding for years with young, franchise level talent are going to skate rings around these players in crunch time with a rookie coach vs the NHL's best coach. Can they squeeze another career year out of Nelson who disappears & is injured too much? Lee can carry a team but he disappears more, and breaks down more. The 30 million dollar third line Pageau is bottom five, while Toews has his cup at 16 million which is why the 1st round pick had to go from a weak prospect pool.

Answers? Lamoriello signed these players, he extended Clutterbuck/Parise so any path for Dufour, Raty, Holmstrom, Bellows is blocked.

Bottom line don't see trade coming & to move Wahlstrom Beauvillier from a forward group this old is how you become the many teams who live outside the playoffs for a generation or longer which is where NYI are now.

Off the ice Malkin will sell within two years as Belmont Park Retail Village is hidden in Newsday. Lou's contract is up. The obvious narrative Belmont is a destination was always a joke, tenant NYI will be gone in 2-3 years unless new owners keep team there with no revenue streams and Dolan likely advancing Malkin 2032 TV money for these massive payrolls miles above revenue streams since 2014, and the 480 million sale. You can already see Dolan's Newsday pushing for a Nassau Coliseum demolition.

New York signs Calle Odelius ELC/Kubiak

New York Islander Fan Central | 7/15/2022 06:30:00 PM |

Folks who have read me rail on twitter about Lamoriello/failed Belmont experiment/lack of communication don't need to read it here again. We can't get that team back to NYC fast enough with a gm who talks to the customers like 31 teams did.

The teams top pick has an ECL along with one of it's qualified RFA.

New York Qualifying Offers Update: Dal Colle will test the market

New York Islander Fan Central | 7/11/2022 09:26:00 PM |

Lou's as usual hiding his business, but outside of Michael Dal Colle, everyone who is a restricted free agent received an offer from NYI which also includes Parker Wotherspoon. In normal circumstances qualifying offers are due monday after nhl draft with a normal deadline to accept or reject by 7/15. Doing the math with free agency beginning on 7/13 & adding 14 days the deadline to accept/reject would be 7/27.

Accepting a qualifying offer means a player is signed. Rejecting means more negotiating/most players are not eligibile for arbitration.

New York Signs Seven

New York Islander Fan Central | 7/09/2022 07:54:00 PM |

D Robin Salo ($800k x 2) D Sebastian Aho ($825k x 2) F Andy Andreoff ($762.5k x 2) G Ken Appleby ($762.5k x 2) D Grant Hutton ($775k x 3) F Jeff Kubiak ($750k x 1) F Otto Koivula ($800k x 2)

Aho/Hutton were facing UFA.

This leaves RFA Durandeau, RFA Dal Colle, UFA Wotherspoon, UFA Vande Sompel at AHL level & Bellows Romanov, Dobson (all RFA) at NHL level.

Lamoriello Comments:

New York Islander Fan Central | 7/08/2022 07:00:00 PM |

Says he wants Sebastian Aho back, and will get young players signed. Will speak with some RFA as to where they are at this point regarding qualifying offers. All draft picks will be in camp.

Updated historical section, will fill in prospect site with picks during weekend. Apparently one of the pandemic rules was college players get an extra year of eligibility, but NYI have players who concluded their 5th year so I'm not 100 percent where they fall. For now everyone stays posted unless we know one way or another.

If Lamoriello wants new players he has a forward group packed with old players signed. To do anything in UFA he has to move contracts first. He signed Parise/Clutterbuck so he's in on the team he has.

New York Schedule Released/Lamoriello/Notables

New York Islander Fan Central | 7/06/2022 05:03:00 PM |

Lamoriello said no more assistant coaches/others including Korn expected to stay. Wilde still does not want vaccine, and would love to get an offensive forward/defensive forward as 31 of his counterparts. Nice job on video.

Value Retail construction has begun, garage opened, say goodbye to south lot forever.

Doug Houda & Brian Wiseman named assistant coaches

New York Islander Fan Central | 7/05/2022 01:07:00 PM |

Doug Houda played here. Still believe they need a third coach to replace Lambert. Brad Shaw was hired to re-unite with John Tortorella which is an excellent choice.
Houda has a long record as assistant coach in Boston/Detroit. Wiseman has three years in Edmonton/long college experience.
NY draft picks: 1st/2nd (lost their own in Ladd trade/gained Colorado's pick in Toews trade) Devils have a later pick, Sens have 7th in Coburn trade. Draft is Thursday/Friday morning, not usual Friday-Sat.
