New York Notables

I'm still settling into a routine here this season which is odd for a website around since 2007. Sometimes I want to post about every game, and others the past format is used where the players are discussed with the results worked in over a set of games which is where things are with the Boston game on Tuesday, and likely Minnesota/Knicks hockey after this.

So many holes and issues with this team I simply do not see escaping a box from five under to five over which means no playoff contention.

They don't have the scoring as Palmieri as usual can't score to save his life, and now Drouin has joined that club with Pageau, and Cizikas who both can't be moved fast enough. Sorokin has been solid the last few games. Lee was slow as mud for a week. Tsyplakov can't escape Roy's dog-house while Duclair is not moving well.

Most of the defense including forwards are very beatable besides Holmstrom who has the extra step to force turnovers if they change his position.

The reaction at the end of the Blue Jackets game was the oddest thing I have seen in years with this team. Roy jumping like he won a cup in overtime with all the players, it shows for all the issues they are a team which could change things---or not, and gives me pause on Roy's continued employment here.

Still Roy is an odd coach, with no real Barry Trotz like game plan or structure. Barzal in 2023 during camp played right wing, at the end he asked to be moved to the left and was very specific as to why right wing did not work for him. So what happened this week? Barzal played right wing, and the red hot forward on right wing in Heineman was moved off of where he scored all his goals to the left wing? Why?

Schaefer is a generational talent, he plays like a veteran 25-26 but the league now makes sure to hit him. I do think given his past an injury will happen and the answer can't be sign an enforcer to have a fight by appointment which fixes nothing.

I like Ritchie but he has dead weight on his wings, those players cannot score. Same as 7-49-10 can't score with 44/53 as their center.

As for Ritchie put him on the shootout, outside of Holmstrom everyone else looks lost.

Old news on the failed Belmont experiment attendance, even Bruins player mocked the crowd.
