He would still have to sign an NHL contract by 8/15/26 for NY to retain his NHL rights. AHL contracts give the NHL team no rights to a player. This is why we have two-way deals. Cam Theising was not qualified and took an AHL deal. All these players are free to sign an NHL deal with another team. Having written this they can be signed by New York in the future.
