New York Islander Fan Central Comments:
Considering the rumors of at least a three million dollar contract last summer and some reports he could have been looking for 4m as Scott Hartnell around the time of his arbitration hearing that's a great signing for Garth Snow at 2m per year and clearly Hunter wanted to be a New York Islander long-term. Classy negotiations by both sides that stayed out of the press until a week ago and an article where Hunter did not give any impression that he wanted to be back but obviously did.
The scoring has not been there but no doubt he brings a lot to the table for this club and has since his debut in the 2002 playoffs, to me this is an outstanding job by the gm and the player here and he is on pace for his second best season in terms of points.
A lot of classy comments from his teammates across the board for a man who had been in this organization since the 2000 draft where he was traded here from Anaheim for a fourth round pick after being selected in the sixth round 150th overall in 1998.
He is the kind of player who you feel can be part of a cup winning team.
Highest marks to Charles Wang, Garth Snow, Ted Nolan, Trent Hunter and everyone involved in this signing.
Newsday: Greg Logan had a full article on the signing with Hunter's comments that he definitely wanted to stay here and that Garth Snow and his agent knew that and that he wanted a long term deal, Garth Snow and Rick DiPietro praised him.
Newsday: Mr Logan also looks like he added a blog on the signing or it's linked his blog to the newspaper article as he did for the Islander insider.
