Brendan Witt Suspended Five Games/Notables

Islanders website: Report Brendan Witt was suspended for five games and will not be eligible to return until March 10th for the next game against Toronto if he remains with the Islanders past the trade deadline with general manager Garth Snow's comments.

NYI Fan Central Comments:

Seems like the number that comes up when it's time to suspend an Islander these days with Mottau getting only two games and Pock five. I'm almost surprised Colin Campbell did not take Witt out of play for the final game against the Leafs to avoid any potential problem and make it six games.

I guess Witt cannot get hurt in a game before the deadline if you consider that angle.

Newsday: Mr Logan in the Islanders Newsday blog had Witt's comments at 3pm Friday, most of which appeared in the 4am version of Dan Martin's NY Post article with only few extra words on the official's explanation.

Point Blank: Mr Botta had several earlier updates from the hearing to the Islanders statement and who was present.

Media blog: Cory Witt apparently is not happy the Tsn staff did not credit Mr Botta or his Point Blank blog for their report on Bill Guerin last night and claimed they just didn’t want to credit a blog with the scoop and if Newsday had it, he is sure they wouldn’t have had a problem with it.

NYI Fan Central Comments:
That was my first impulse also but who knows when the same sources spoke to Mr Botta vs Tsn. If Mr Botta was not an Islander team official for over twenty years I would not link to his rumors or reports either without confirmation from a credible news outlet for the same reasons a lot of fringe insiders who are not members of the print media are not used here.

Despite Mr Botta's long affiliation I guess Tsn is not ready to make that leap and credit a former team official with a site which is a new concept. Would Tsn reference Washington Owner Ted Leonsis's site if he broke a story?

Also in my estimation there is far too much emphasis on scoops and page views everywhere.

Sportsnet.com: Reports Florida Panthers defenceman Nick Boynton was sent home by the team Friday and will miss the final three games of this trip because of disciplinary reasons.

NYI Fan Central Comments:

Or until he's traded by Tuesday which is what this sounds like. Anyone get the feeling this player has forever seemed destined to wind up an Islander?

Glen Metropolit was claimed by the Canadiens.
