New York Notables: Looking Back Right or Wrong?

New York Islander Fan Central | 6/05/2012 02:39:00 PM |
Today is the day we go back, look at our speculation around the league, and see what we got right/wrong.

I write this with the disclaimer NYIFC did not go around the league much.

Simply put I think it's unfair to my readers to waste our time which is why I will not discuss the 2012 draft prospects, then speculate beyond writing the Isles should select the best player available.

I linked to the professional sites for everyone to get their own background information instead.

Same thing now, no one all of a sudden watching the Kings or Devils is an expert, during the regular season Anders Nilsson was two minutes from back to back home shutouts against New Jersey, the Isles beat the Kings in overtime.

Right/Wrong?
It was easy enough to predict the Islanders could finish anywhere from 1st-14th in 2011-12, we wrote Florida was the only team on paper that would be behind everyone at that time. 1-1.

Having written this giving Ed Javanovski that contract, trading for Campbell's salary, Bergenheim at that price or going with Scott Clemmensen is not a good percentage move among a lot of mediocre signings on paper.

First place after ten years without playoffs cannot be disputed, they lost game seven in overtime to the team in the finals.

This blogs view was Washington stole Tomas Vokoun a year ago,  who finally had their playoff stopper in net. Enter third string prospect Holtby because of injury.

Vokoun now is a backup in Pittsburgh with a contract less than Nabokov 1-2.

Kevin Poulin, Anders Nilsson, and Mikko Koskinen should be taking notes.

Cablevision handed Richards twenty million dollars just for 2011-12, he absolutely had to be signed to play with Gaborik was the spin. We wrote the signing would be terrible, they were broken up almost immediately, only to be reunited after sixty plus games.

Richards had one of his worst statistical seasons, and was mostly a non-factor too many games despite his pp goal against Washington. on a team locked into it's defensive system.

PA Parenteau 67 points, Richards 66 points, enjoy the next lockout?
2-2.

Ilya Bryzgalov 3-2/Ed Snider moving his fat front-loaded Comcast contracts just signed in Carter/Richards reflected bad management hurting the NHL 5-2.

Wisniewski/Ehrhoff/Kaberle overpaid/struggled/injured. 8-2.
McCabe 9-2.

Criticizing the John Davidson Blues after struggling for years before firing another coach early, who was finally successful after many past failures. 9-2-1, but Ken Hitchcock deserves the full credit.

Not sure what I wrote about the Leafs, but did not expect a great team or Burke to do more than talk. 10-2-1.

Looked at Tampa's defense signing Bergeron/Gervais, and knew Dwayne Roloson/Bolts would struggle on defense/goal. 11-2-1.

Predicted late their schedule/winning streak put them in the best spot at 8th seed. 11-3-1.
