Buffalo Sabres new assistant head coach Bryan Trottier gave an interview today where he disclosed Al Arbour is going through a little tough time with dementia right now, among other past Islander related subjects.
(4:15 mark in audio)
NYIFC Comments:
Horrible news. Thoughts and prayers to Mr Arbour/Claire and family.
A very informative interview that was started about his time as a New York Islander with an interesting story behind a not so flattering image of Trottier.
Best of luck to Bryan Trottier. I wish management had considered him over Greg Cronin.

Islanders twitter feed announced there will be a 1pm Thursday press conference with General Manager, Garth Snow and John Tavares.
NYIFC Comments:
Contract, Captaincy or both? Obviously by Tavares recent comments, he has an interest in being named captain.
Despite what will likely be great news on Tavares, what's needed even more is an announcement on Josh Bailey.
Regardless of Bailey's comments he has a decision to make.
It could well come down to accept the qualifying offer or do not play. Hopefully it's more about trying to agree on something longer.

Islanders website: Announced Wednesday 4/20 that they have agreed to terms with forward Tyler McNeely on a one-year, two-way (NHL/AHL) contract.
Robin Figren, a restricted free agent has left the organization and signed in Europe with Linköping.
NYIFC Comments:
Figren's loss is not a footnote.
Figren was a third round pick in 2006, who the club put a lot of time and expense into so this is not a small loss by any means because after playing with the Oil Kings WHL (some may recall his wrist injury) the Islanders signed him but he wanted to play the first year of his contract in SEL with Djurgardens, his first year with Bridgeport was a learning experience but last season produced fourteen goals/thirty points.
As for Tyler McNeely, he had a good finish coming out of North Eastern University where he played the last four years before finishing season with Bridgeport.
Wetaskiwin Times: Report Bryan Trottier was mobbed for autographs at a 4/10 tournament.

Newsday: Greg Logan's article has comments from Mike Comrie and Chris Campoli on the trade to Ottawa where Campoli confirms he did request a trade because he was not progressing in this system while Comrie discussed the injuries being very frustrating for him the last two seasons.
General manager Garth Snow is expected to address the media again Saturday.
Newsday: Mr Logan in the Islanders Newsday blog speculates on the trade deadline, where Bill Guerin may waive his NTC and that this deal would have been better if Snow received a prospect with the pick. Jack Hillen who on paper replaces Campoli's offensive role is a restricted free agent this summer.
NYI Fan Central Comments:
We'll have to see what happens. Only Bill Guerin knows what he will do if asked to waive his NTC. Campoli obviously was behind Streit, Okposo and Weight on the powerplay.
Someone is going to have to explain to me why a club behind multiple teams thirteen points out of the playoff spot is talking about a playoff push? Campoli is about the future for Ottawa, Comrie matters only if he is resigned by Ottawa.
NY Post: Dan Martin's article only had Garth Snow's statement.
Daily News: Peter Botte's limited space had no quotes from anyone on the trade.
Windsor Star: Bob Duff has comments from Bill Smith and Bryan Trottier at a charity game where they talk about the current Islander struggles.
NYI Fan Central Comments:
Looks like Smitty is far removed these day from the club. The Wings were giving away cars to get people to attend games when the Islanders dominated hockey.
Ct Post: Michael Fornabaio's article was on Joel Rechlicz and previewed tonight's game against Springfield here.
**************************************************************
Saturday AM:
Point Blank: Mr Botta had comments from head coach Scott Gordon and a recap of what Garth Snow told the media Saturday about the trades and the direction of his team moving forward with Jack Hillen getting the first opportunity to replace Campoli.
He felt Campoli's trade request should be kept in-house and simply credited his play.

Newsday: Greg Logan recaps the Islanders loss to Florida with head coach Scott Gordon's comments as to why he went with Joey MacDonald.
Newsday: Mr Logan's other article notes Bill Guerin and Richard Park as the only players not injured this season while head coach Scott Gordon's comments from Joe Callahan's earlier recall are repeated.
The head coach has nothing to add about on Freddy Meyer skating on his own.
Sun SentinelwithMiami Herald & Palm Beach Post: Has the recap of Florida's win against the Islanders.
Chronicle Herald: Has Bryan Trottier's comments on fighting in the NHL.
Newsday: Wallace Matthews has Bob Nystrom's comments on making Bernard Madoff list.
NYI Fan Central Comments:

Ct Post: Michael Fornabaio's article is on goaltender Nate Lawson. Jordan Hart was among the players called up to Bridgeport with head coach Jack Capuano's comments.
Bridgeport has a double-header in Norfolk Friday and Saturday.
Note-The Islanders 2/5 prospect watch was added to NYIFC prospect blog.

Newsday: John Jeansonne covered Islander practice Saturday at Syosset and included in the many injury updates Doug Weight will be out 2-4 weeks with his recent leg injury with Nate Thompson & Frans Nielsen likely to return on Tuesday.
Rick DiPietro and Freddy Meyer did not practice.
NYI Fan Central Comments:
Doug Weight for someone saying he does not want to lose minutes for a youth movement if he is playing well combined with his recent comments about likely not returning if he is traded is doing a good job forcing the general managers hand to trade him down the road unless he has a very good relationship with Snow/Gordon.
No general manager or coach will react well to comments bordering on ultimatums in the press. This is the second time unless Weight was misquoted.
Newsday: Greg Logan's Saturday mid-afternoon insider had mostly a recap of the first forty one games and Scott Gordon's comments on the two hundred sixty plus games lost to injury and how it has prevented a fair assessment of what's going to work for vs what's not going to work for us because of the constant change of personnel.
Also included was praise for the young players and more talk of criticism of the coaches system by veterans inside and outside the lockeroom (Mr Logan does not expand on this) as well as the Edmonton experience for Bill Guerin, Doug Weight a few words on Eric Nystrom.
NYI Fan Central Comments:
If Mr Logan writes several veteran players have expressed serious reservations about whether the coach's system can be as successful at the NHL level at this point we should know who beyond Brendan Witt and a player on another team.
Are two several?
Scott Gordon for his part did not give Joey MacDonald the blanket praise he has earned for his play which goes beyond any statistic. Mr Logan may not be much of a DiPietro fan and feels he would have a tough time facing this many shots but without MacDonald this team would be involved in a lot more blowouts against and never would have been a period from five hundred in late November before the bottom fell out for good.
Never one not to not stir something up Mr Logan ads if the current veterans leave the organization disillusioned with the lack of progress and the chance for future success it may not bode well for future free agents signing if the Isles do not secure one of the two top picks in the draft.
Of course a lot of teams have poor seasons where veterans depart and those organizations can sign players.
Newsday: Cody Derespina has an update on Director of player development Bryan Trottier, who is in China with the kids for the Project Hope tournament with the kids owner Charles Wang is sponsoring.
NY Post: Larry Brooks was due for a few shots at the Islanders, todays was a mild one questioning Josh Bailey not playing for Canada at the WJC.
NYI Fan Central Comments:
Anyone honestly think Mr Brooks cares none of the other prospects with their NHL clubs were released to play for Canada? It's kind of like the Post marketing Lundqvist campaign the last few days instead of sending a writer out to cover actual games which is the best way you market a team.
Ct Post: Michael Fornabaio covered Bridgeport's 2-1 win against Hartford at Harbor Yard Saturday, Trevor Smith returned and scored a five on three goal.
Ct Post: Mr Fornabaio in his Ct Post blog had a lot of items that did not make the paper about the game which had some weather related issues. Head coach Jack Capuano comments on the win with Islanders head coach Scott Gordon in attendance.
Nate Lawson had thirty three saves, Yann Danis was the backup.
Hartford Courant: Covers the Wolfpack.

AHL.com: Reports the Sound Tigers won 3-2 against the WBS Pens in an 11:00 am game Wednesday at Harbor Yard.
Blake Comeau had a goal and an assist. Jamie Fraser and Tim Jackman also scored for Bridgeport. Hillen and Colliton had assists.
WBS even scored the first goal so we can finally stop reading about blown leads for a day. Peter Mannino had twenty two saves.
*************************************************
Newsday: Greg Logan in the Islanders Newsday blog asks the question should Scott Gordon ride him against Atlanta or rest him for Saturday as MacDonald and Gordon comments.
NYI Fan Central Comments:
Good question by Mr Logan and why for months in advance you do not sit down and set a schedule for how much any goaltender should play. All this talk about how many games DiPietro should have played was always completely worthless like it should be with any goaltender.
It simply does not work that way.
Islanders need to get back up to five hundred, but they also have to pick spots with both their goaltenders. In this league there will be no long bus trips.
Danis did not look lost in the preseason or the game against Montreal but did drop a few shots the first few periods against the Canadians.
Nowhere to run or hide here regardless who is in goal.
Islanders website: Has the weekly prospect watch which includes a few words from Bryan Trottier.
