The Final Poll Ever:Select Isles First Round Pick

New York Islander Fan Central | 4/10/2009 10:00:00 AM |
We have one more week before closing for good so why not have one final poll at NYIFC.

Islanders will have the majority of the ping pong balls Tuesday but regardless of how they bounce on Tuesday the New York Islanders will select no lower than second.

That means they will have an opportunity come June to select someone between John Tavares and Victor Hedman. On Tuesday we find out of another team beats the odds and get to pick first but for now you decide who you would take.

I did leave an option for other, those who take it step up and give me the name and I will make sure the player is included when the numbers are added.

Thanks.

Poll Update

This week's poll had the following question and was added on the heels of Brendan Witt's recent comments.

Is Scott Gordon's Overspeed system the problem?

Here are the current results as we hit the final day:

Unconventional system, no club at this level can have success playing this way
5 (11%)

Can only work in AHL with days off and depth
5 (11%)

Islanders lack of talent and injuries the problem
18 (42%)

Other teams figure out how to exploit his system quickly
3 (7%)

Better players would have success with it
10 (23%)

It's not a system built to club's strength as advertised
6 (14%)

No system will work with this group
2 (4%)

Scott Gordon better adjust or he should be fired
5 (11%)

Garth Snow should keep coach and find players to play coaches system
12 (28%)

This system put the team on this losing streak
4 (9%)

No system could have prevented this losing streak
8 (19%)

Not sure, let's see more hockey
2 (4%)

Nice job on the voting here, a lot of folks felt it was the injuries and the lack of talent but some sided with Brendan Witt's take also.

A few felt Scott Gordon has to adjust or he should be fired but Garth Snow gave him complete support since the poll started.

Final Poll Results

Usual impressive job by the readers in this weeks poll which was what you would do with the Islanders first round draft pick and another great turnout.

I voted for Alex Pietrangelo and that the club should take best player available.

Zach Bogosian was the consensus along with someone out of Stamkos, Fliatov or Doughty will drop to the fifth pick.

No one felt the team would go off the board and take someone rated lower on the prospect list or that the Isles would trade down, but a few felt the team would trade up.

Final results were as follows:

Zach Bogosian D 12 (26%)
Alex Pietrangelo D 7 (15%)
Luke Schenn D 7 (15%)
Mikkel Bdker RW 1 (2%)
Colin Wilson C 3 (6%)
Kirill Petrov RW 0 (0%)
Cody Hodgson C 5 (10%)
Filatov, Stamkos or Doughty will drop to Isles 15 (32%)
Kyle Beach 1 (2%)
Isles trade down 0 (0%)
Isles trade up 2 (4%)
Isles go for offense regardless 2 (4%)
Isles take best player available 18 (39%)
Isles go off the board for another prospect 0 (0%)
Isles trade pick despite gm's comments 0 (0%

What would you do with fifth pick in draft?

Took a little extra time to come up with the latest poll and think it's a good one that once again puts us in the driver seat on draft day with the Isles fifth overall pick. In this case you can pick from many options.

I separated the 2008 draft section from the Isles prospect section today. I will keep adding to both sections but with prospects needing to signed who are Islander picks already vs possible new draft picks it was time to create an individual spot for both here.

As usual I'm not going to make it easy and respect my readers too much to give you an easy option of Stamkos, Filatov or Doughty who seem unlikely to drop as far as five which leaves the Isles in a position if they do not take the best player available according to most of the lists from CSB or Red Line Report do they go best forward available even if that player is ranked lower than five by some?

Cue Pierre McGuire and Mike Milbury.

I will also give you the option of trading up or trading down as well as going off the board and trading the pick outright. It would be great if you post and tell us who you are drafting if you go off the board and I will make sure that's included when I update along with any general thoughts on the Isles upcoming draft.
