Tsn.ca: Reports the Detroit Red Wings have signed right wing Darren McCarty to a one-year contract and assigned him to Grand Rapids on a 14-day conditioning loan.
NYI Fan Central Comments:
Were off and running with the first transaction. Unless Peter Forsberg decides to change his mind and play for a club I'm not expecting any more moves along these lines.

Tsn.ca: Reports Peter Forsberg has signed with the Colorado Avalanche for the rest of this season.
NYI Fan Central Comments:
I had no idea when I mentioned him earlier today, I guess he changed his mind but it made me laugh.
Good news is we can stop hearing the reports on his injury, better news the league is a better place with him in it. Bad news we have to go through this again as soon as the summer.
All these news feeders all set up for trades and we get two signings......lol
Garth Snow, you go right ahead and sign Kenny Jonsson.

Can Isles enter Forsberg race? |

Peter Forsberg
Daily Herald: Tim Sasson reports the Chicago Black Hawks are still trying to sign Peter Forsberg, despite being outside of the playoff picture at this time.
The article speculates it's likely BlackHawks gm Dale Tallon has presented Forsberg a deal for at least two years past this one, perhaps in the neighborhood of $5 million a year.
NYI Fan Central Comments:
Lot of downside and risks with Forsberg but if this team wants a veteran to add to Guerin who will be in the final year of his contract next season, they can still make a long-term contract offer. If negotiations with Chicago are serious obviously the playoffs are not the only priority for Forsberg.
If the Isles have decided against signing Comrie, this allows them to move him at the deadline and add some young speed and skill to Forsberg.
Something to ponder for 7/1 because Peter Forsberg will attract free agents to whatever club he signs with.

Fox Sports Speculates on Forsberg to Isles |
Fox Sports expands on a possible Forsberg to the Islanders scenario that includes several teams here
NYI Fan Central Comments:
Of course his injury problems and his failure last season on a bad Flyers team make this a risky signing, but the Islanders do need another center and do not have much to offer of value in the trade market other than youth they need to hold onto. If Forsberg and his agent are willing to sign for the money the Islanders can give that to him and no doubt Guerin, Sillinger and Witt would make the basis a good veteran core and players who know how to win.
In the end does it come down to his agents comments that he wants the big payday and are the Islanders willing to take that chance. He was virtually in the playoffs for Nashville and my guess is it takes three years, eighteen million to put him in an Islander uniform. Good news is if it does not work out and he's healthy there will be a trade market for him that will improve the system. Bad news news is he get's hurt and cannot play his cap hit could cripple the club.

Money talks, Forsberg to Islanders? |
Denver Post columnist Adrian Dater offers an interesting take on Forsberg and his unrestricted free agent status today.
There is nothing specific in this article from player, agent or any NHL source as to the Islanders contacting Foppa and many teams are included as interested in his services.

One person with intimate knowledge of Forsberg’s situation is that his agent, Don Baizley, wants to get one last good-sized contract for him. Let’s be clear about one thing: those who think Forsberg will take a hometown discount to return to the Avs are forgetting one big thing: he’s never done that before.
But what happens if the Islanders, having lost Ryan Smyth and a few others, offer him a three-year, $25 million deal? It could happen. Money always talks.
