ITV: Released interviews with Head Coach, Jack Capuano, and several of the players. The big news of the day is once again, Blake Comeau, changes postion to open the season as a right wing, despite the fact changing his position in the past has hurt his progression.

NYIFC Comments:
I saw Comeau in the video feed from Bridgeport playing right wing.

That likely means Rolston slides to left wing where he had his forty points in his final forty games a year ago vs a twenty four goal player, who's production has been very streaky at best over six months. History says, this hurts Comeau, who has struggled with this exact move made by several past coaches.

NYIFC twitter feed has notable moves on Thursday, which include assistant captains named, plus Jeremy Colliton being named Sound Tigers captain, with another menu of goal songs.

Ct Post/Greenwich Times: Has Colliton's comments along with several players named as assistant captains.

Fort Erie Times: Includes a footnote that Jordan Bailey (brother of Josh Bailey) is the teams early leading scorer.

New York Notables/Prospect Camp/NIFA Meeting Updated 7/14

Ct Post: Michael Fornabaio is reporting UFA Jeremy Colliton will return on a two-way contract. Confirmed by Sound Tigers website.

Writing the NIFA meeting will be live here Thursday at 4pm may not be correct.

NIFA meetings are archived for viewing. It may have been a bit presumptuous on NYIFC part, that automatically (like Nassau) the NIFA meeting would also been shown live at 4pm via live web cast.

We apologize in advance if the meeting is not live-streamed at 4pm.

NIFA will be Meeting 7/14/2011 at 4pm from Charles Wang's Marriott Hotel, where they are expected to comment on the Coliseum referendum in their agenda.

Like Nassau County all NIFA meetings can be seen with no media spin. NIFA had it's Jan-April meeting (likely others) at the Marriott, so there is nothing to be read into that.

Many past NIFA meetings are available for viewing, most are only a few minutes with none of the debate/lobbying you see in County meeting process.

Only expectation I have from prospect camp is no players are injured. The Devils, Adam Larsson, and several prospects have sustained injuries in their camp this week here.

Eric Boguniecki : signed by Bridgeport as as assistant to new Head Coach, Brent Thompson.

NYIFC Comments:
This is somewhat of a surprise given the club has a lot of folks, who have had brief appearances on the Sound Tigers bench, Matt Bertani was retained as an assistant.

Seems management felt a need to add a second assistant or Thompson was permitted his own hire?

New York Notables:
1. Funny how Charles Wang is spending the same forty million he was before there was a cap floor or ceiling, and not one person writes about it? Roloson/Wisniewski were traded with no replacements and the New York Islanders did not go below the floor, which means they were at least four million above it.

But why go there?

2. It's already 7/13, how dare the Islanders not sign Bryan McCabe for three million, Alexei Kovalev/Zherdev for another two million and subject us to actually seeing if Calvin deHaan, Nino Niederreiter can make the club out of camp?

At least replace Godard and Mike Rupp? We have no one to stand up for John Tavares. (wrong Atlantic team and era)

2A. It's not 1998-2008 for Bryan McCabe or Kovalev anymore. The right wings in the system may be a lot better than Zherdev now. Kyle Okposo will likely be back with Tavares and Moulson on the first line, with Parenteau going down a line or two.

3. How are the Islanders going to compete with a defense that has Eric Brewer, MA Bergeron, Bruno Gervais and Matt Gilroy?

3A. Victor Hedman is a very good player, spare me about the rest being better than the Islanders or most other teams at this time.

4. Make an offer sheet (insert star player name) what are they waiting for?

4A. Matched.

How Low Can You Go Department:
1. I watched the Nassau County meeting Monday which included spending four million dollars in repairs to the Nassau Coliseum, it quickly and quietly passed, but those needing to create a story out of nothing (beyond selling themselves) did what they do best for their own selfish purposes.

1A. Not like the Nassau Coliseum had to cancel an Islanders home game because of asbestos issues, but those same folks would not dare write one word on that and retain a credential.

1B. Instead let's interview some former players to whole-heartedly, without question and from a completely honest place support the Islanders staying, while in the background, it's kept as negative as possible in the owners paper, which contributed greatly to the teams attendance/coverage issues since they started pulling games off television in 1998.

1C. What's next the Islanders refused their Metro Ice Challenge Winnings, or a pregame a few years ago because their TV partner is so wonderful? That the Islanders do not even want preseason games televised/or preseason specials? That the team does not even want our great partners to be burdened with live web-casted preseason games to help interest? Just place all the games on an insulting channel named for Madison Square Garden and hold the HD/ratings, while spamming Msg teams across every telecast.

1D. Anyone have a bridge to nowhere to sell cheap beyond the one going up at a renovated Msg? This end game is all about October 2015, quietly riding in as the good guy while saving hundreds of millions.

Since 1998, the history reflects the truth.

2. PHWA President, Kevin Allen, has no answers on what to do with blogger vs writer credentials issue here beyond letting the teams decide or who vouches for individuals in markets where there is less coverage?

I personally like Kevin Allen's work, but his answer seems to be pass the buck or stay above it as association president. Perhaps he's too smart to take a stand?

3. Beyond comical the same article reports the NY Times, does not allow it's hockey writers to vote for NHL awards? You may recall this was the same publication demanding transparency last November on Islanders media policies? NYIFC called out this hypocrisy once again on April 5th.

4. Yes folks, it's 2011. Hockey information has regressed so much we have comedy sideshows playing insiders on teams finances, with select professional media outlets so cheap and lazy they use them as actual resources.

Then those same publications, call out the teams for not spending enough?

4A. Where's X-Ice when you need them with long memories of Islanders earliest website versions.

5. Maybe we can get some of these comedy sideshow kiddies to publish the salaries of all the professional North American hockey writers? Then we can see which editors, publishers, and owners are the real hockey coverage problem?

5A. Will be fun to see the NY Post calling out Rupert Murdoch (NEVER), which needs to save a little money these days, firing Larry Brooks/Mark Everson and replacing them with AP coverage which would be a dramatic improvement for New York hockey credibility at the Post.

6. Let's end on a good note-Type the words Fort Neverlose into Google maps.

Newsday: Greg Logan's captain obvious article plays the what if game on Parise-Islanders while Joey MacDonald talks about his career high game in saves, head coach Scott Gordon discusses the Devils and Kyle Okposo goal.

Newsday: Mr Logan's other article had injury updates and the following statement from Islanders spokesman Seth Sylvan on the offer by Queens officials:

"We are very flattered with the interest expressed in the Islanders by various Queens elected officials and business leaders, However, our current focus is to work diligently with the Town of Hempstead to obtain approvals for the Lighthouse Project."

Newsday: Mr Logan also had a short blog entry on Queens during the game.

NYI Fan Central Comments:
Given some of these folks could have known Mr Wang from his Queens college days it may have been something that was put out there as a future option or a little push at Nassau County but again a move to Queens would mean no Lighthouse which has to be the priority for Mr Wang-Rechler because this is not just Charles Wang's project.

It does mean there is a market for this team locally if Charles Wang decides to move it there himself or sell it. I would think with Queens involved a buyer would surface without that Smg lease in a new facility.

New York officials have no problem adding the Islanders and that's the good news.

NY Post: Mark Everson's Devil-centric coverage was all the Post provided.

Newark Star Ledger: Rich Chere had Devils centric coverage and blog entries on the game.

Daily News: Kristie Ackert's Devils coverage had eight short paragraphs on the game with a few on the Islanders-Queens.

I fail to understand why the sportsticker articles the Daily News has for games with ap has far more space but not the written articles.

NY Times took the night off from coverage in Newark and Msg going all AP.

Newsday: Greg Logan's game recap reports Islander head coach Scott Gordon did not even wait to hear a reporters question about earlier blown leads before launching into what the Newsday beatwriter calls a rant who wanted to talk about his team getting five points in it's last three games and his young players.

Kyle Okposo also comments about his third period who credited Comeau and Bailey for their play-making.


NYI Fan Central Comments:
I thought Scott Gordon was under the weather during his post-game, apparently he got a bit annoyed beyond Msg+ postgame.

I will put up the video when/if ITV has it.

Was he upset with Mr Logan, C.J Papa, Mike Knobler, AP/CP reporter?
George Henry had an AP entry.

Safe bet Times, Post and Daily News were not in Atlanta.

All I know is Newsday has played up the third period blown leads all season, if the Islanders were the Knicks I wonder if the perception created and theme would have been the same if their prospects won the game in similar fashion?

This is why teams needs more than one beat reporter/newspaper. You need competition between papers/professional writers for scoops/information and if things get tense in interviews the papers/reporters not involved usually will report the story and play no favorites.

Remember Barry Baum vs John Vanbiesbrouck back in 2001 here or the Ranger beat writers ganging up on a Toronto radio personality last season?

One thing for sure, if Newsday is the issue here the staff will make sure to gang up on the Islanders with no response from the club.

Good for Scott Gordon, this team has been in a lot of close games lately and have not had the third period theme surface for a while, the kids and the win did deserve to be the story.

Newsday: Greg Logan in a late blog entry had comments from Josh Bailey and Kyle Okposo about how their line played under pressure with the focus on the third period they produced.

Atlanta Journal Constitution: Mike Knobler's coverage points out the Thrashers moved closer to the Islanders for 30th seed and a better chance at Tavares in the game recap.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Dave Molinary reports on former Islander Miroslav Satan who has one goal in eighteen games after a good start for Pittsburgh with his comments along with gm Ray Shero and head coach Michel Therrien.

Ct Post: Michael Fornabaio has Jeremy Colliton's comments on returning to the lineup for Friday's game against Hartford with head coach Jack Capuano's comments.

Newsday: Greg Logan's game article has comments from Doug Weight on his 1000th point as he credited Wayne Gretzky's franchise for being first class and wished it would have meant the Islanders tied the game. Head coach Scott Gordon talked about the penalty by Chris Campoli on their only powerplay costing them while Rick Dipietro discusses the third goal he wanted back but said he got through the game with no injury problems.

Newsday: Mr Logan also has an article on Trevor Smith and why he was called up with comments from Scott Gordon.

The competition is on here big time at left wing now with Bergenheim, Tambellini, Comeau and now Trevor Smith. Not sure what this means for Jon Sim unless someone is injured or Tim Jackman sits and someone shifts to the right.

Arizona Republic: Jim Gintinio recaps the Coyotes 5-4 win against the Islanders Friday.

San Jose Mercury News: Has the latest on the San Jose Sharks who put Claude Lemieux on waivers to be recalled and cleared but for now is still in the AHL.

Included:
Defenseman Derek Joslin up from Worcester, forward Jamie McGinn down. Douglas Murray skated and said he hopes to be back tomorrow after missing Wild game with lower body injury, so Sharks might have eight healthy defensemen. Todd McLellan said he might experiment some, including playing Alexei Semenov at forward.

Jeremy Roenick skated with team, doing everything except contact drills.

Canadian Press: Recaps Russia's 5-1 win against the Czech republic on Friday along with Slovakia's win against the US which drops them out of any medal contention.

Lewistonhockey.com: Reports the trade of Assistant Captain Michael Ward and Stephen Horyl to the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles has elevated Islander prospect Maxim Gratchev to assistant captain.

Ct Post: Michael Fornabaio recaps Bridgeport's comeback win with Jeremy Colliton talking about his deflected tying goal with a little over six minutes left, Yann Danis on how well he saw the puck in his first game/win in a while & head coach Jack Capuano discussed one of the Sound Tigers better systematically structured efforts/forecheck all season.

The Sound Tiger coach also credited Phantom goaltender Scott Munroe for his strong play.

Colliton and Yann Danis recalled by Islanders

AHL.com: Reports Jeremy Colliton and goaltender Yann Danis were recalled by the Islanders on Saturday.

NYI Fan Central Comments:
Either the Islanders do not want DiPietro even on the bench tonight or he is hurting today after the game unless something is up with MacDonald.

Colliton is a bigger surprise because Sim could slide into a spot for Hilbert, I wonder how Sillinger responded to last night also?

Ct Post: Michael Fornabaio in his post-game blog last night reported Yann Danis is remaining with the Islanders, albeit technically while assigned to Bridgeport and there was scuttle about a forward having to go up, but he had not heard who was hurt.

We'll get our answers when the puck drops. Paper transactions are very typical from the AHL-NHL and back. Comeau was demoted and recalled for the holiday.

Newsday: Greg Logan in the Islanders Newsday blog had a lot from Bill Guerin about his future beyond this season and resigning with the Islanders.

Mr Logan also reported Rick DiPietro and Mike Sillinger are sitting out as a precautionary reason.

Sillinger, Gervais will play/notables

I posted the ITV interview to set up the pre-game.

Islanders head coach Scott Gordon reported Mike Sillinger & Bruno Gervais will play against Toronto on Friday.

Doug Weight is still out according the Islander coach.

According to Corey Witt in the Islanders media blog the home team will wear white tonight to help out the Leafs.

NYI Fan Central Comments:
As of 2pm no AHL transaction involving the Sound Tigers or Islanders in terms of Callahan or another player called up or sent down.

I would guess Gervais in means Callahan out. Sillinger in should mean Walter goes back down. Islanders with Fritz still here have a lot of extra players and some in that post-waiver clear period like Sim and if I'm correct Pock can juggle a little but not forever.

Too bad ITV does not have practice video, no one had any idea Gervais or Sillinger were skating if they did at all. Could work the same with for DiPietro.

Until the Islanders return from the West Coast virtually no stretches for practices.

Newsday: Mr Logan reports no injury updates will be available until Monday, head coach Scott Gordon's comments on the toll they have taken on his team. Bill Guerin comments on the opportunities for the young players.

Hockey Canada: Reports team Canada broke open a 3-3 game with Finland in the third period winning 7-3, Islander prospect Jyri Niemi had a double roughing in the third Canada scored on.

USA Hockey: Reports team USA defeated Latvia Sunday night 13-2 with a whopping 63-12 shot advantage. Islander prospect Blake Kessel was not one of the fourteen players to record a point but had a first period penalty.

Edmonton Sun: Derek VanDiest has Oilers coach Craig MacTavish on former Islander Robert Nilsson who criticizes his play.

Sports Business Journal: Tripp Mickel reports the NHL projects a two percent increase in league revenue for the 2008-09 season. NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly and NHLPA Executive Director Paul Kelly comment as the cap could move up or down a million or two for next season.
