New York Notables, Trivino, Satan Update

New York Islander Fan Central | 8/08/2012 06:56:00 PM
A very quiet time for the NHL/New York Islanders in general as the CBA dance continues which will only get serious come early September in ownership circles.

For those wondering this blog only is interested in Corey Trivino regarding hockey matters. As of early 8/8/12 Boston Herald reported BU spokesman Colin Riley said Trivino is no longer enrolled at the school meaning he did not graduating voiding his 8/15 graduating deadline.

The Boston Globe  reported, Trivino, a Canadian Citizen was expelled from school. A student visa that allowed him to stay in the United States while he studied is no longer valid, and he will live at home in the Toronto area until he reports to training camp.

His attorney/agents made clear he intends to sign an NHL contract within the next month whether it be with the Islanders or another NHL organization.

NYIFC Comments:
Per the cba this means at some point he had to give the Isles notice he intended to turn professional per the Wheeler rule meaning the Isles had thirty days to negotiate a contract or he is an UFA which could have happened this week or at some earlier point.

Still this likely means the Isles just wasted a second round pick with no return.

sport.cas.sk: Has a new interview with Miroslav Satan where he makes clear he could remain in Slovakia, or play in the KHL with nothing difinitive regarding Lubomir Visnovsky's claim about the Isles negotiating with him but he does discuss a possible lockout.

sport.aktuality: Had Satan's comments 8/8 Islanders are a possibility with his son enrolled in school here.
Detractors in hockey is whispered that it is excluded or an alternative that would have ultimately anchored in Ney York Islanders. So which is it?

"Yes, there is such a possibility, but now the team seriously considered. The threatened lockout overseas, so this option is currently not consider too. "

NYIFC Comments:
Satan did not play in the NHL last season, he is entitled to sign wherever he wishes, what Visnovsky said really does not tell us what Satan or the Isles are absolutely interested nor have the Isles had any restrictions in making him offers in many recent year as he has trained here.

If a hearing date is announced for Visnovsky, we'll finally get an answer which if a CBA issue could drag on for months. There is no law Anaheim's gm, Bob Murray, has to even show up, he could simply decide to keep him or trade him to a team on his allowed list while Garth Snow get's back his draft pick.

Visnovsky May Elect Arbitration To Void Islanders Trade, Satan Contacted

New York Islander Fan Central | 7/23/2012 07:13:00 AM
Pravda.sk & Sport.aktuality.sk & Sport.sme.sk:  Is reporting a clause for the fifth year in Lubomir Visnovsky's Edmonton to Anaheim contract may allow his agent, Neil Sheehy, to contest via NHLPA arbitration his trade to the New York Islanders because he would have a limited NTC which would void his trade to the Islanders, sending him back to Anaheim.

Visnovsky for his part is again not making a commitment either way, and could report regardless, but did disclose Garth Snow was negotiating with former Islander, Miroslav Satan at some point.

"In Anaheim, they think that clause trejd with my consent in exchange for leaving Edmonton fell into what they claim to lead the NHL. Another view is not gambling association NHLPA, and the wonder of the arbitration court proceedings. While it is not clear whether I win it, but I talked about it with my agent Neil Sheehy. he says to arbitration, we could learn who is right. Chances are, it balanced. it is up to me, as I choose. I would be the first hockey player with such a problematic point of agreement that could be turned to the arbitral tribunal. If the dispute eventually succeed, I would once again become a player in Anaheim. But after the June exchange, I would probably abode there, and obviously, I really wrote a list of ten of clubs, which would I wanted to play and where would I be able to send. There wonder if I will go ahead or not wait for it, "he told Sport newspaper Lubomir Visnovsky, who is the new season prepared in Bratislava.

If the experienced defender decided to stay at NY Islanders, in season 2012/2013 might not be the only Slovaks in the report "islanders". Club general manager Garth Snow is lanári striker Miroslav Satan, who has the Islanders played in the past. "Garth Snow phoned me once that it was negotiating with Miroslav Satan. Maybe I should not notify the media too, but told me to break it to come back to Long Island, where he played in the past," he told Sport Ľ.

HC Slovan website has Miroslav Satan's stats (61gp, 31 goals, 74 points) who played with Zigmund Palffy (90 points) in 2011-12.

NYIFC Comments:
Bottom line the trade could be voided if an arbitrator rules in Visnovsky's favor landing him back in Anaheim (if he elects arbitration/wins/decides to return to Anaheim) as the Isles would get back their second round draft pick. It all comes down to the language of his contract/extent of the teams his contract allowed his rights to be traded to.

The comments speak for themselves, but overall this is becoming simply not worth territory it for the New York Islanders because if  Visnovsky is willing to have his agent elect arbitration at all obviously he does not really want to be here.

If you reference New York Islander Fan Central, please refer to the title of this entry because that's the only story at this time, the papers referenced reported the story with Visnovsky's quoted comments.

Let's also be clear, Visnovsky did not say he does not wish to be here, he may elect arbitration or not, he could report or not.

Please do not twist quoted comments into something different.

If Visnovsky ultimately wishes to have his rights back with Anaheim forcing a trade to a team on his list or perhaps not report anywhere, it's time to get back the second rounder, and give his spot to someone else.

Miroslav Satan is on Long Island for a charity tournament as reported on WFAN this morning, only Snow/Visnovsky know when Satan was contacted which could have been  at any time this summer which will likely not make Snow a happy camper learning Visnovsky made that public.

One thing I can write is this is why Dolan's Newsday reporter, Arthur Staple's work needs to be questioned, he did a poor/sloppy job with information he reported contacting Visnovsky after the trade.

Waiver Update: Sim, Satan Included

New York Islander Fan Central | 3/03/2009 01:22:00 PM
Took waivers off the other entry and created a fresh one, teams are trying to clear space for trades. Snow controls the first claim if there is someone he wants or in this case wants to move.

Newsday: Mr Logan reports Jon Sim has been placed on NHL waivers Tuesday which Mr Botta also reported earlier here.

Mr Logan also adds:
Scott Gordon offered a terse answer on if he has spoken with Sim as he did Bergenheim, saying they met at the start of the season and he would keep the conversation private and even though one might read the move as symptomatic of an attempt to purge the locker room of unhappy veterans. Fans just have to hope the club still is making decisions based on hockey reasons and not personality conflicts.

NYI Fan Central Comments:

Or it's simply possible Scott Gordon's response is a personality conflict with Greg Logan who is making every move into a public problem between player/coach and is getting a little tired of being asked about it?

Gordon was upset recently with the media asking him about blown leads, cannot put that on the player-coach relationship.
*************************************************************
Tsn.ca: Bob McKenzie reports Sean Avery was claimed on re-entry waivers by the Rangers.

Let the Cablevision/Newsday spin-doctoring begin based on what John Tortorella said, which I suspect will not get the play Gordon-Guerin got.

I wanted the Islanders to take a chance, looks like a lot of team are betting against him, hard to blame them.

Good luck to Avery.
*****************************************************************
Tsn.ca: Reports Miroslav Satan, Brendan Morrison Gary Roberts, Martin Gerber, Brenden Bell, Aaron Voros, Erik Reitz, Eric Perrin, Craig Adams have also been placed on waivers.

NYI Fan Central Comments:
For those who recall Snow was interested in Perrin a few years ago, Satan's been scoring a little lately but I guess the Pens have had enough or want to save space for someone better.

Islander/NHL Notables

New York Islander Fan Central | 2/09/2009 04:35:00 PM
Los Angeles Daily News: Rich Hammon's blog coverage for those wanting to know what's up with the LA Kings.

Tomorrow's pregame blog is set for release at 1pm.

St Louis Post Dispatch: Jeremy Rutherford reports Andy McDonald has been signed to a four year extension for 18.8m by the Blues.

NYI Fan Central Comments:
This was the player traded for Doug Weight last year from Anaheim.

McDonald has been on IR since November with six goals and a minus twelve for the John Davidson run franchise who currently sit at 15th in the Western Conference.

It may give a little bit of a read on the market for what Comrie/others may want to sign long-term.

USA Today/several media: Report Dallas winger Sean Avery cleared NHL waivers Monday with the next move an NHL team extending him an offer to play for their AHL affiliate because Dallas does not currently have one.

NYI Fan Central Comments:

Our new poll is up, I had my say and will add remember Nielsen getting throw into Florida's bench Saturday or Avery hitting Okposo last year?

Vinnie LeCavalier was not exactly scared of Tim Jackman and those one shift games from Mitch Fritz were not getting it done. I wish Bill Guerin had someone here to fight for him and Nate Thompson when he's been healthy does not exactly drop the gloves often.

It's in Garth Snow's hands first if/when Dallas puts him on recall waivers unless they pass Atlanta in the standings.

SI: Reports Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick won NHL player honors stopping 95 of 100 shots in three consecutive road victories, lifting the Kings (23-21-7, 53 points) within three points of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference as they head to New York for Tuesday's game.

NYI Fan Central Comments:
This is on the back end of being shutout by Mike McKenna Saturday.

SI: Michael Farber says Dallas management forgives the co-gm with no experience of the Dallas Stars for signing Sean Avery because he won a Stanley Cup with Dallas but publications like SI cheap-shot the Islanders for hiring a gm with no experience?

NYI Fan Central Comments:
All I can write is if Garth Snow gave Avery that money his inexperience would be a major issue and folks like Michael Farber or Jim Kelley would be unloading on Charles Wang and Garth Snow, not talking about Hull's playing career and that management is simply writing this off.

In other words Mr Farber copped out here big time not being critical of Hull as he would have been of Snow.

BTW-MacDonald and Danis are looking very good right now if you read the other part of this article about goaltenders. Does Snow dare trade one of them at the deadline if the return is good or he signs one of them for next season?

Pittsburgh Tribune Review: Rob Rossi reports former Islander Miroslav Satan is apparently in the dog house as his ice-time has been limited.

Post Gazette: Beatwriter Dave Molinary had the following (not all) answering a question about Satan:

Obviously, he has not come close to living up to their expectations, and his inability to contribute in other situations when he's not scoring has rendered him pretty much of no value to this team. There's always a chance he'll start producing goals on a regular basis, but there's also a chance the Penguins' game against San Jose tomorrow will be postponed because an asteroid will land on Mellon Arena in late afternoon. Don't bet big money on either, however.

Note-That's the same reaction Mr Molinary had on Avery working out in Pittsburgh if claimed.

Shelly Anderson: In a chat for the paper feels Satan is just not a good fit for the Pens with two goals in twenty four games after a good start.

NYI Fan Central Comments:
Funny, all I read last summer was the Islanders were Satan's problem and playing it Pittsburgh he would produce big numbers. Satan as usual has virtually nothing to say. Ruslan Fedotenko is still out with an injury.

Imagine where the Islanders would be if Snow gave them longer term deals?

30th which is where they are with three hundred man games lost to injury anyway.

Islander News Articles 1/30

New York Islander Fan Central | 1/29/2009 11:19:00 PM
Newsday: Greg Logan's game recap reports Islander head coach Scott Gordon did not even wait to hear a reporters question about earlier blown leads before launching into what the Newsday beatwriter calls a rant who wanted to talk about his team getting five points in it's last three games and his young players.

Kyle Okposo also comments about his third period who credited Comeau and Bailey for their play-making.

NYI Fan Central Comments:

I thought Scott Gordon was under the weather during his post-game, apparently he got a bit annoyed beyond Msg+ postgame.

I will put up the video when/if ITV has it.

Was he upset with Mr Logan, C.J Papa, Mike Knobler, AP/CP reporter?
George Henry had an AP entry.

Safe bet Times, Post and Daily News were not in Atlanta.

All I know is Newsday has played up the third period blown leads all season, if the Islanders were the Knicks I wonder if the perception created and theme would have been the same if their prospects won the game in similar fashion?

This is why teams needs more than one beat reporter/newspaper. You need competition between papers/professional writers for scoops/information and if things get tense in interviews the papers/reporters not involved usually will report the story and play no favorites.

Remember Barry Baum vs John Vanbiesbrouck back in 2001 here or the Ranger beat writers ganging up on a Toronto radio personality last season?

One thing for sure, if Newsday is the issue here the staff will make sure to gang up on the Islanders with no response from the club.

Good for Scott Gordon, this team has been in a lot of close games lately and have not had the third period theme surface for a while, the kids and the win did deserve to be the story.

Newsday: Greg Logan in a late blog entry had comments from Josh Bailey and Kyle Okposo about how their line played under pressure with the focus on the third period they produced.

Atlanta Journal Constitution: Mike Knobler's coverage points out the Thrashers moved closer to the Islanders for 30th seed and a better chance at Tavares in the game recap.

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: Dave Molinary reports on former Islander Miroslav Satan who has one goal in eighteen games after a good start for Pittsburgh with his comments along with gm Ray Shero and head coach Michel Therrien.

Ct Post: Michael Fornabaio has Jeremy Colliton's comments on returning to the lineup for Friday's game against Hartford with head coach Jack Capuano's comments.

Islander News Articles 11/9

New York Islander Fan Central | 11/08/2008 10:54:00 PM
Newsday: Greg Logan has the early recap of the Islanders 4-3 shootout loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins along with Miroslav Satan's comments about leaving the Islanders because of their youth-movement and signing with Pittsburgh here.

NYI Fan Central Comments:
Satan should know better than anyone the Pens had some of the same problems drawing fans for years until the ping-pong balls bounced their way. With only one full-time beatwriter for the Islanders he may have had more to say that did not make the article.

Post-Gazette Dave Molinary & Tribune-Review with Mike Prisuta has the Pens coverage.

NYI Fan Central Comments:
Great stuff from Dave Molinary who had comments on Okposo that did not make any of the local papers along with the very funny story on Fedotekno and what Mike Sillinger had waiting at his locker.

NY Post: Dan Martin's article has comments from head coach Scott Gordon about the club sitting back in the third period and Andy Hilbert.

Daily News: Peter Botte did not have a single quote from the coach or players about the game but did report on Nate Thompson's injury along with the Islanders man-injury games lost already at seventy nine and climbing.

NYI Fan Central Comments:
For those scoring at home this means the New York Islanders will lose about seven hundred man games to injury if things go this way all season. It's almost never mentioned anywhere nor was it once last season when they led the league at over four hundred man games lost.

The Republican: Gary Brown has a few words on Islanders captain Bill Guerin from Wilbraham and ex-Falcon Mitch Fritz not knowing he was sent back to Bridgeport.

Newsday: Mark Herrmann has a feature on LI products that have made the NHL and the upcoming prospects in the area with comments from Mike Komisarek and Chris Higgins of the Montreal Canadians.

Ct Post: Michael Fornabaio recaps Bridgeport's 5-4 against the River Rats with comments from goaltender Nate Lawson and head coach Jack Capuano.

Daily Gazette: Has the River Rats coverage.

BEFORE TUESDAY'S GAME ON VETERANS DAY AGAINST FLYERS.

The Nassau County Fire Fighters Operation Wounded Warrior (NCFF-OWW) will be collecting care packages at the main box office entrance and Gate 16. If you can stop in and help these folks and in their efforts it would be greatly appreciated.

NCFF-OWW is a registered non-profit organization of Fire Fighters who run a collection campaign of care package items prior to the holidays for the past several years.

During the first weekend in December the group will be involved with "Long Red Line" of fire vehicles that bring the collections to the Wounded Warriors who will be spending their holidays recovering in the Hospitals away from their families who visit, Fr. Bragg, Camp Lejeune, Bethesda Naval and Walter Reed Army Hospitals.

Pittsburgh at New York 7pm Msg+

New York Islander Fan Central | 11/08/2008 01:14:00 PM
USA Today/AP: Reports Sidney Crosby is questionable for tonight's game against the Islanders while Pittsburgh Post Gazette's Dave Molinary here has more on this and reports Dany Sabourin is expected to start in goal.

Pittsburgh Tribune Review: Mike Prisuta has Crosby's comments he hopes to suit up for tonight's game while Miroslav Satan says the Islanders decided they're going to go with young guys and rebuild, and he would rather be on a team that has a chance to win.

Updated:
Crosby is expected to play tonight.

NYI Fan Central Comments:
Have to think this is a very fragile and angry Islander team hearing about all the blown leads but right now they only have time to get back to work and start skating.

Pens come in with Whitney and Gonchar out long-term on defense, no excuse for the Islanders not to get in the trenches and make the Pens defense work in their own end of the ice.

The Islanders simply cannot afford to sink much lower in the standings or they are going to reach that double-digit point level plus of being out of contention which means forget any realistic shot at a playoff race unless this group has a significant winning streak in them.

The defense is going to have to make some plays, the forwards need some even strength and MacDonald has to keep playing at a high level and give them a chance.

The practice lines looked promising with Bergenheim back and Okposo on right wing with Tambellini on the left with Nielsen and Hunter.

Pittsburgh has won two straight with Satan playing well along with Malkin, no doubt both former Islanders will want to prove something to their former management.

Ct Post: Michael Fornabaio reports in his Sound Tigers blog Tim Jackman was recalled to New York, Mitch Fritz and Ben Walter will play tonight for the Sound Tigers.
