Snow ITV Interview On Hamonic Trade

We have five minutes of Snow discussing why he traded Hamonic, and what he's looking to do from here.

In the end, they had nine roster defenders, resigned Seidenberg who played Hamonic's side. Now we see if the draft picks are taken in future, or included in a deal for another player.

To resign Tavares to a huge deal if that's possible meant cutting somewhere else in a cap league.

Always a sad day to lose a long time player, who was so very popular, but this is a part of the business.

I don't want to hit this part very hard, but clearly Hamonic did struggle, and was injured a lot the last few years or playing hurt often, hopefully a change to Calgary helps in both regards.

Ok, thirteen minutes of audio from Hamonic was posted,  Snow's video is up, and draft analysis is on the sidebar of the trade. 

The prospect website has profiles posted for all the new draft picks.
A Sound Tigers employee sent me a tweet that Doyle Somerby is waiting for UFA on 8/15.

This never should have leaked from Canada in the first place. Family circumstances sometimes change, and clearly did. Another satisfied customer playing for this organization.

Islanders website: Had more from management, players with Johnny Boychuk, who feels Hamonic could be back for playoffs & Zidlicky return. 

NYIFC Comments: 
We'll know eventually on Hamonic. There is a ton of very heavy lifting in the next week only to qualify, with an exhausted/injured team already.

This has made last season's brutal schedule tame by comparison. It did not come close to balancing out vs the teams in the division in terms of road trips, days off between games or even tired competition.

“The root of all this is a personal family matter of mine that I hold dear to my heart,” Hamonic said. “It has nothing to do with the organization or how I’ve been treated here for six years of playing and another two or three since I was drafted. I’ve honestly been treated like gold from the start.”

NHL.com: Hamonic had nothing but praise for management, Capuano commented, as did his teammates.

NYIFC Comments: 
What more can be written? A personal family matter is just that.....not our business.

At at some point Snow will accommodate his request, or Hamonic will have to go home. 

 He reported to camp, played the games, but sooner or later Snow will have to act at a disadvantage same as when Chris Campoli requested a trade.

How it was leaked in Canada was a disgrace, but that's par for the course.
 
The team will have to carry on which is why you develop a prospect system.

Hopefully a future return will help the organization or the money saved will help retain one of their many UFA players.

Seems for the moment Hamonic will continue to play games for the New York Islanders.

Win Or Lose New York Must Work In "Some" Prospects

Some prospects does not mean all.

Ryan Strome, Anders Lee, and some rookie defenders have to be managed very carefully in their first professional season. 

Of course the same folks who complained about Niederreiter/Bailey being rushed will be the first demanding Strome/Lee be called up claiming the team will not give them a chance. 

As for the 2013-14 New York Islanders, I wish this was a slump where it's clear things would even out eventually because there is too much talent on this roster.

It's not the case, not even close.

This group collectively is doing their absolute best. They have gotten a lot of unexpected production from different players already which makes the overall record even more troubling.

Still they have had chances to win/earn point(s) in most games. 

The problems go far beyond coaching, or a tendency to play unproductive struggling veterans.

They have been there since preseason.

Bridgeport Sends Ken Reiter To Fort Wayne ECHL

Sound Tigers website: Reports Ken Reiter was sent for Fort Wayne of the ECHL. 

Bridgeport finished it's preseason 1-1, off games that were only scheduled a few weeks ago. Travis Hamonic left after one period Friday with an injury being called slight/precautionary by new head coach, Scott Pellerin.

Islanders website: Has been updating Bridgeport on a daily basis.

Fort Wayne is currently affiliated with the National Hockey League's Toronto Maple Leafs and Anaheim Ducks, as well as the American Hockey League's Toronto Marlies and Norfolk Admirals

More players need to be cut before next Friday's opener. 

NYIFC Comments:
Not earth shattering news but worth an update. Bridgeport opened last season with three goaltenders. Mikko Koskinen started last year with Bridgeport before being loaned to a team in Europe, he declined the Isles qualifying offer, and signed in Europe for 2012-13, however the Isles retain his NHL rights. 

New York/Bridgeport had no ECHL affiliate last season. Ft Wayne Komets are an ECHL expansion club playing their inaugural season.
