All NYI RFA (including Kirill Petrov) were qualified per Ct Post on 6/27 with exception of Justin Vaive & James Wright, who become UFA.

NYIFC Comments: Not a fan of Greiss, and especially at two years. Would have preferred Raimo or waiting to see who could become available.
Petrov/Hickey were announced/expected earlier. Petrov ELC is one year because of his age.

Kirill Petvov Signs With New York/Victor Crus-Rydberg Update |

Kirill Petrov
|
Victor Crus Rydberg
Championat.com via sport.business-gazeta.ru: Has reported the New York Islanders have signed Kirill Petrov to a one year ELC at 850k.
From what I read, could not tell if a one-way or two way contract.
Petrov was the Islanders 3rd round pick in the 2008 entry draft who could not come to terms with Ak Bars
Career Stats Ak Bars
NYIFC Comments:
Our long national nightmare is over or about to begin. A one year deal suggest nothing is guaranteed, and if he does not make the team would go through waivers and play his one season in Bridgeport if he decided to report there.
Even by KHL standards, the numbers are hardly dominating.
Obviously Ak Bars decided to move on after having him under contract for years.
At 25, and his size, we'll see.
Someone on the current NHL/AHL roster just lost a job.
***********************************
Long story short, likely got it wrong on Victor Crus Rydberg needing to be signed by 5/31/15. Apparently because he was drafted as a European player by the Islanders, despite going directly to the OHL, his signing window is four years in the new cba aka Linus Soderstrom, not two.
Rydberg signed in SEL on 5/5/15.
His correct NHL signing deadline should be 5/31/17 for the same reason Soderstrom is 5/31/18.
Expressen.se Expands on Johan Sundstrom's comments that he wants to remain with the Islanders but wants an answer this week. (likely Wednesday)
NYIFC Comments:
The only answer Garth Snow is required to give must be by 6/29/15 to qualify Sundstrom, retaining his NHL rights. Sundstrom is free to sign in Europe even if qualified at any time.
If Sundstrom is expecting an NHL guaranteed contract based on his statistical season/injuries, I expect he will not be resigned. If wants a commitment from Snow he'll be qualified, that is one the organization should give to him for 2015-16.
The question is does Sundstrom want to ride buses in the AHL for another season?
If Sundstrom accepts a qualifying offer he will be back with the organization for 2015-16.

The sidebar at NYIFC has contract status for all New York Islander UFA/RFA, along with the college players who must be signed.
The prospect blog is updated with the contract status of all players in the teams system entering 2012-13. Qualifying offers must be made by 6/25/2012.
College Prospects graduating must be signed by 8/15/2012 which on paper include Troy Mattila from 2006 & Corey Trivino.
To be clear, John Persson playing on an ATO (amateur tryout contract) with Bridgeport does not mean the Islanders are required to sign him before 6/1/2013 because he is a 2011 draft pick.
The New York Islanders have no selections from the 2010 draft remaining who must be signed by 6/1/12.
Because of no transfer agreement with Russia/KHL, we cannot provide where Kirill Petrov stands in terms of his NHL status or contractual rights the New York Islanders would have over another NHL organization.
Ct Post: Michael Fornabaio had comments from Garth Snow, Brent Thompson, and the players regarding Bridgeport's season plus what's ahead.
Rhett Rakhshani, Mikko Koskinen, Justin DiBenedetto, Tomas Marcinko, Mark Katic, & Ty Wishart are among many important restricted free agents who require qualifying offers by 6/25/2012.
Players not signed who were qualified like Jesse Joensuu a year ago will require another qualifying offer, which is how the Isles retained Jeremy Colliton's rights as he played in Europe.
Yury Alexandrov, signed in KHL for 2012-13 also requires a qualifying offer to retain his rights.

What's Next For New York? Decisions/More Changes |

Kirill Petrov
Tweet
Appears Islanders made a subtle tweak to their helmet design. The pics from Saskatoon/Philadelphia both show the Islanders in home blue uniform, wearing helmets with the team logo, the scripted word Islanders replaced.
AK Bars website: Report Islander prospect Kirill Petrov has been traded to
Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk for a draft pick.
NYIFC Comments:
Will make appropriate changes to prospect blog, means nothing in terms of coming to North America at this time, but perhaps will give him a better opportunity to play.
Former draft pick Dmitry Altaryev is with this team.
************************************
All summer long I have been writing about a possible trade/transaction coming from Garth Snow, I do believe the Mike Mottau acquisition will force a trade on the backline, just as it would have done before Mark Streit was injured.
I put virtually no stock in preseason game results. Even if the club traveled to China it would have been playing NHL teams four games ahead of the Islanders Wednesday, fine tuning their starting lineups, while the games for this team would be their first against NHL competition.
The Steve Stirling Islanders had a 7-0 preseason one year, they were blown out opening night. Play competitive, show you can score or create quality chances, and display some defensive chemistry. If that works it will be developed as the season progresses.
Having written this we have to see which changes are made for the New Jersey game on Friday because there is little opportunity for what is considered the opening night lineup to work together in NHL game situations. With Weight-Nielsen not playing there is a big disadvantage because chemistry only comes from playing hockey games. The Saturday split-squad contests again forces veterans that should be together to go play on a secondary team.
After Saturday, changes will be coming. Could be some dramatic ones. Most of the tryout players will be departing quietly. I do not see an NHL roster spot for Jed Ortmeyer or Dean McAmmond.
Speculation:
If a scoring winger is not brought in it would not shock me to see someone make the club over Nino Niederreiter among Rhett Rakhshani, Jesse Joensuu or another player.
I have little doubt David Ullstrom is making a future run at Frans Nielsen's roster spot, that could keep him around into the season if Nielsen cannot play.
Calvin deHaan in two camps, simply stands out offensively. It's not just the goals/skating the last two years but his level of offensive ability. Even a Jack Hillen's spot may not be guaranteed long-term if this continues.
I know size/toughness is a good thing, and Eaton is not a Sutton-type of hitter, but where does Mike Mottau fit this roster because he is inconsistent, but always dressed for New Jersey. Almost seems like this is Jurcina's spot being upgraded which was not guaranteed.
Personally, I would treat Radek Martinek as if he is at his best and not do a thing but play in him in the top four, they need his defensive game.
If I'm coaching Wisniewski, MacDonald, deHaan are three of my four powerplay points. The days of Doug Weight back there should be over, Okposo will not be there for a long time and not be in that role if it were my call.
I do believe by next Saturday there is a fair chance another veteran scoring forward will be brought in, with teams unloading players. I do expect Garth Snow and Scott Gordon will have some very hard choices to make.

New York Will Ice Veterans In Saskatoon vs Calgary on 9/29 |
Tweet
Montreal Gazette: Cory Wolfe has comments from General Mangager Garth Snow, on veteran lineup that will represent New York in Saskatoon, against the Calgary Flames on 9/29 at Credit Union Center, along with Rick DiPietro's progress to date.
Comments from the General Manager:
On the game in Saskatoon on 9/29:
On Goaltender Rick DiPietro:
NYIFC Comments:
What's notable here is the Saskatoon/Calgary game, although scheduled long ago as part of the canceled China trip, is a split squad contest, with the Islanders also playing in Philadelphia the same night.
The other split-squad contest is in Quebec on 10/2, with the Coliseum exhibition against New Jersey where historically the majority of the opening night lineup participates.
Sure, the gm could be selling the Saskatoon game a bit to help lagging ticket sales for a one-day event, which is far different than a full camp a year ago.
We'll see who participates when 9/29 comes along, one group will make a much shorter trip.
As for Rick DiPietro on 2/25 he told the NY Daily News his leg/body felt good.
Three days later his knee issues resurfaced in practice that sidelined him for the remainder of the season.
Snow's comments on this (even DiPietro's) are good news, but until DiPietro can stay healthy in the long-term, it means nothing.
Notables:
Ak Bars Official Website: Translated to English will give you up to date team announcements/play of Kirill Petrov, no sources required.
Twitter updates today have article/analysis on Sporting News, Islander preview by Flyer centric-writer, Chuck Gormley.
Mr Gormley writes the Islanders got what they paid for in free agency, and mostly discusses how the club did not keep up with it's Atlantic counter-parts, despite New York finishing only fourteen goals behind the Flyers a year ago. He also did not bother noting his fellow Sporting News writer, Craig Custance entry on Islander/ Kovalchuk negotiations just days ago, where agent Jay Grossman's comments contradict him entirely, but still wrote New York made a lucrative offer to Kovalchuk in the $100 million range.
According to Kovalchuk's agent, Jay Grossman, no such offer was ever made.
Beyond that a lot of old, stock quotes.
Mr Gormley was correct on one thing, Islander fans got what they paid for, a free article so sloppy/lazy he still owes us a refund.

“We were always going to play one of our home games in Saskatoon, just because of the positive experience that we had there last year.”
“With the way we were embraced in the community, I’d like to think that we won over some fans in Saskatoon because I know we’re big fans of going back there.”
On Goaltender Rick DiPietro:
“He’s been doing great, He’s been skating with a bunch of our players who have come here early either to train or get their kids in school. He has looked really sharp.”
“He can just go out and play and not have any physical issues.”
“To say that he’s excited would be an understatement.”

Time Running Out For Kirill Petrov Buyout/Contract With Islanders |
New York Islander Fan Central | 8/04/2010 11:22:00 AM |
Kirill Petrov
2008 draft pick Kirill Petrov was at prospect camp in July, however unless a deal is worked out very soon between Petrov, his agent and Ak Bars it is unlikely he will be in North America this season with New York or Bridgeport.
In the end Petrov has a signed contract and a guaranteed income, Ak Bars is under no obligation to buy him out, nor are the Islanders obligated to pay a KHL team to release him, and then give him an NHL or AHL contract.
His agent's job is to look out for his client, which may not include walking away from a binding agreement. No doubt Petrov and his agent also have taken a good look at the roster depth on the Islanders, and his realistic chances at winning an opening night roster spot.
Ak Bars owns his rights, like any NHL player under contract they could easily trade him to another KHL club, or demote him to their junior club as their did earlier last season when he was sent to Neftyanik Almetievsk.
Of course, we have no idea if Petrov is paid less in Russian juniors, as many North American players are when sent to the AHL.
There are also a lot of signed prospects in Bridgeport under contract who have played every game of their agreement in the Islanders system, those player agents will be looking closely at any possible negotiations.
Petrov has played only fourteen regular season games the last two years for Ak Bars here, he was sent down to the development team for a short time before the WJC a year ago where he played seven games.
Some folks may recall when Robin Figren signed, the agreement was he would play the first year of his Islander contract in the SEL, before coming to North America last season. It was never announced (to my knowledge) if the Islanders or his SEL team paid his salary for year one of that contract.
In the past the European deadline for players to sign or reach agreements was July or August 15th. With no transfer agreement involving KHL, plus given Alexander Radulov left Nashville with a signed NHL contract, there are no enforceable rules beyond a verbal agreement that was not honored, with the IHL having no real authority over an independent league to prohibit anyone from participating.
When Jiri Hudler left Detroit to sign in KHL last summer in early July, Shawn McBride, the KHL's North American spokesman had the following:
Having written this the KHL season opens September 8th, with Petrov's Ak Bars squad.
Training camp will for them likely opens in about two weeks. From what I could understand Ak Bars exhibition schedule opens around August 22nd.
This may well go beyond what the Islanders can do because this player is not a free agent. Only Ak Bars knows what it intends to do.
Bottom line a decision has to be reached soon.

The Telegram: Calvin deHaan, had a few words on his shoulder injury as team Canada's development camp at Mile One Centre in St. John’s.
Prospect Casey Cizikas is part of roster also.

Note-I had no box score for Canada-Sweden to see if David Ullstrom played in the hyped Tavares-Hedman contest Friday, his name was not in the game summary.
Only question for the moment seems to be if Kirill Petrov is a go for team Russia.
I have seen some things that he is on the roster but not sure he will play.

Mr Botta earlier Monday with Islanders website confirmed an injury to Nate Thompson of two-four weeks with a fractured ankle, while Josh Bailey is now day to day.
Newsday: John Jeansonne has head coach Scott Gordon's on the Islanders injuries and what they have meant to what he calls an offensively challenged roster already with comments from Kyle Okposo and Mike Comrie.
NY Post: Dan Martin has Scott Gordon on DiPietro traveling to Minnesota and Mike Comrie on injuries.
Mr Martin also reports as many as three callups could be made for tonight's game.
NYI Fan Central Comments:
I think this goes beyond normal team injuries when we see players expected out weeks come back early and get reinjured or others projected out for a day or two all of a sudden are downgraded to a month or longer.
Gervais went from healthy to a few days to off the radar entirely. Okposo went from a few days to a few weeks to an additional four-six weeks to where he is back at practice?
Now DiPietro goes from Monday to Friday? How many times can Nate Thompson have ankle problems before it's time to ask questions?
Josh Bailey is on his third injury if he sits tonight.
Not blaming anyone but I have never seen such a thing on any NHL club to this degree and there have been Islander seasons when they go through fifty players.
Just not like this where injury prognosis change as quick as the temperature.
Washington Post: Tarik El-Bashir has updates from Washington's practice on Monday.
Washington Times: Corey Masisak reports the following on the Caps:
*Nicklas Backstrom is fine and will play tomorrow.
*Alex Ovechkin and Alexnader Semin were just taking the day off and will play tomorrow.
*Jose Theodore will not make the trip to New York, Brent Johnson will start in net. Simeon Varlamov will back him up.
*Sergei Fedorov will not make the trip.
*Tyler Sloan will make the trip but he is not sure if he will be able to play.
*Both Tomas Fleischmann and Eric Fehr will make the trip, but their availability is also in question.
*John Erskine and Chris Clark did not practice.
Sarina Observer: Dave Borody reports Islander prospects Matt Martin & Justin DiBennedetto could be on the trade block for the struggling Sting and that defenseman Mark Katic could return to the OHL next season for his fifth year, but word has it the New York Islanders will sign him after this season and he will turn pro next year.
The Star.com: Rick Westhead reports when word got out Kirill Petrov was content to play for a one million-plus salary and stay near his family in Russia, his stock plummeted allowing the Islanders to select him in the third round.
Columbus Dispatch: Tom Reed reports Islander head coach Scott Gordon is not a proponent of the three-point format for NHL games awarding an additional point for a skills competition like a shootout according to the reporter.
Ct Post: Michael Fornabaio's update is a feature on Sound Tigers winger Trevor Smith with comments from head coach Jack Capuano.

Hockey Canada: Announced Islander prospects Travis Hamonic & Jared Spurgron were both released from team Canada as the roster was trimmed to twenty two for the WJC.
NYI Fan Central Comments:
That leaves Blake Kessel for team USA, Jyri Niemi (Finland) and David Ullström (Sweden) so far among the Islander prospects heading to Ottawa.
Kirill Petrov is on Russia's early list for the games here but to date has not returned to play with Ak Bars from his injury to the best of my knowledge.
I will keep checking for new roster releases from other countries. Elite Prospects
here seems to have most rosters updated with the exceptions of Germany, Kazakhstan and Latvia.

Media Blog: Cory Witt in the Islanders media blog had a nice surprise, the numbers most of the prospects will wear in training camp.
NYI Fan Central Comments:
And just like that we can update the prospects blog with the numbers of the Bridgeport players. No point listing Josh Bailey's number because if he plays for New York it could change again.
Mark Wotton and another player have the number four, aside from Kurtis Foster who is more a Utah player all the numbers should be correct. Jesse Joensuu changed numbers from his one game last season, Colliton will again wear John Tonelli's twenty seven.
Islanders website: Jonathan Morvay reports on Islander prospect Kirill Petrov at the four nations tournament with Islanders Chief European Scout Vellu-Pekka Kautonen comments. Former Islander Sergei Nemchinov was coach of the team.
NYI Fan Central Comments:
This article will be linked on the prospect blog in a special section for reference as will all updates like this.
Canadian Press/several outlets: Report Predators forward Alexandre Radulov has been suspended by the club without pay with general manager David Poile's comments.
Mike Van Ryan was traded to Toronto for Bryan McCabe and a fourth round draft pick as the saga finally ends, amazing anyone took that contract for anything.
SI.com: Darren Eliot has a few words on the new coaches with some speculation at how the transition will work for Scott Gordon with last year's assistant coaches.
Updated 10:30pm:
Newsday apparently want to make sure despite the lack of hockey blogs about the club we have the latest regarding old news on team owner Charles Wang here with a link to a news article on a sports blog.
NYI Fan Central Comments:
This is kind of a sad joke Newsday posted this on the Islander blog and just another example of the lack of professionalism at the paper. It belongs in the business section or the news section but apparently because of the lack of hockey information they throw us this to stir up the fans against the club once again?
Funny, I did not see negative articles about the countless lawsuits against the Dolans or the Garden posted on the Rangers blog?
Windsor Star: Jim Parker reports Islanders first round pick Josh Bailey came to camp briefly last week, but didn't scrimmage and returned to New York Thursday at the team's request even though the Islanders don't open camp for another 10 days.

Qualifying offers
|
Sean Bergenheim
Newsday: Greg Logan reports in the Islanders Newsday blog Sean Bergenheim fired both his agents
(Mark Gandler/Todd Diamond) this week and that General manager Garth Snow just began negotiations toward a contract with his new agent that could make an arbitration hearing unnecessary.
Mr Logan also reports Jeff Tambellini, Frans Nielsen, Jeremy Colliton, Ben Walter and Bruno Gervais have until 5 p.m. Tuesday 7/15 to accept their qualifying offers or negotiate a deal before those offers expire, also Garth Snow said he has deals beyond those initial offers for Tambellini/Gervais, expects to hold talks with Nielsen’s agent and that it’s expected Colliton and Walter will accept their initial offers.
After July 15th if an RFA is unsuccessful negotiating a contract or does not accept his qualifying offer the final option is a holdout.
Mr Logan also asked the Garth Snow if he has any interest in Ladislav Nagy or other unrestricted free agents but the gm did not rule out anything while the beatwriter does some speculating that Radulov's situation may open the door for the Isles to bring in Kirll Petrov.
NYI Fan Central Comments:
Fantastic update across the board from Mr Logan and a lot of information the fans want to know about.
I do not know what to take of Bergenheim firing his agents a few days after we had quotes from both of them. Apparently if they were fired earlier this week it had to be right after their comments appeared in Newsday.
Bottom line Bergenheim wants a better contract than he's offered and until it's settled, anything is possible regardless who his agent is.
As for the rest of the players we'll see how this pans out. If they do not come to terms it could open the door for pending trades and there will be players all over the league in the same spot.

Newsday: Greg Logan had a blog update on prospect camp and reports Kirill Petrov, Stefan Ridderwall, Rhett Rakhshani and Aaron Ness will not be able to attend for various reasons. Assistant general manager Ryan Jankowski comments on Petrov's situation and the long-term plan.
Mr Logan is promising more updates in the coming days.
NYI Fan Central Comments:
Very good job here by Mr Logan finding out specific reasons for each players absence and making sure fans were updated as to today's announcement on negotiations regarding a future transfer agreement as well as Mr Jankowski telling us more about Petrov's status.
Fair to say the World Junior Championships will be a lot of fun for New York Islander Fans.
I guess the season over in the European leagues for some clubs is starting a week or two earlier than usual just as it seems the NHL season will be starting later given the pre-season games in Moncton.
Will be interesting to see if Figren is coming considering he is also slated to play in Europe.
Tsn.ca: Reports Anaheim general manager Brian Burke had a measured response to Kevin Lowe's comments last week but did respond.
NYI Fan Central Comments:
Only thing I can write here is why did Kevin Lowe have to insult the fans in Anaheim and their media coverage? That to me is over the line and not called for because they did not create any problem with Kevin Lowe. Granted I favor Burke and wrote so the other day but still those people should not be thrown into that.

SI.com: Adam Muir in the NHL draft winners and losers article has the Islanders in the honorable mention department for making hay with potential first-rounders Corey Trivino, Aaron Ness, Jyri Niemi and Kirill Petrov on Saturday.
Toronto was hit was a loser tag because they gave up draft picks in a skill draft for a defensive-defenseman in the top five?
THN.com: Brian Costello of THN also was very critical of Cliff Fletcher for giving up prospect depth.
Montreal Gazette: Has Mark Renaud, father of former Spitfires captain Mickey Renaud comments regarding the Islanders selecting Josh Bailey along with the Spitfires' centre statement he dedicated his selection in Renaud's honour.
Colmbus Dispatch: Michael Arace reports Jacket fans are not too happy with the overall draft, that Filatov was another third-liner and another mercurial Russian dangler combined with asking who's drafting Russians. For the sake of balance he includes Filatov looks a lot like Zherdev -- but without the baggage, and with an apparently clear path to North America.
NYI Fan Central Comments:
I guess we shall see. Means nothing until they hit the ice at this level and then we get a good idea as time passes.
Quick hit:
Espn/several outlets report Barry Melrose will be officially announced as new coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday.
Ray Emery of the Senators has been bought out after clearing waivers. Washington Capitals Ben Clymer, Carolina Hurricanes, Jeff Hamilton (former Islander) and David Tanabe have been placed on waivers.
NYI Fan Central Comments:
Carolina seemingly has the former Islander-Sound Tiger on waivers every other week.
NYI Fan Central Blog Notables:
New York Islander Fan Central does not acknowledge amateur/guest fan writers as acredited professional writers regardless of their content in the main news section of this blog which is why something written on the club in Newsday late monday was not included here.
For what the Isles pay Newsday for advertising they deserve a professional writer at the very least.
A little surprised on the poll for the Islanders draft given the reaction on Friday. I gave the Isles overall a C.
Moved Draft center just above prospect center, will be adding in profiles of the
2008 draft class to prospect section as made available.
I think I did all I could do to get my message out here on the Islanders playing in the outdoor game and have now removed the links to contact Mayor Bloomberg, anyone
wants the link again please contract me privately.
I'm considering another live interactive blog for July 1st given the big success of the draft chats both days last weekend. I need to decide on a time where its possible but it's possible nothing could happen regarding our team.
Of course suggestions regarding that would be helpful.

Moose Jaw Time Herald:
Reports Travis Hamonic is the first Moose Jaw Warrio to be picked by the four-time Stanley Cup champion Islanders since Masi Marijmaki.
Pioneer Press: John Shipley has Garth Snow, Don Lucia's comments about the situation regarding Kyle Okposo from December with Aaron Ness's comments as it applies to his future if he should decide to leave the Gophers sooner than later.
NYI Fan Central Comments:
Not to come off like an Islander homer here but Don Lucia took a shot at the Islanders the day Okposo announced he would not be returning to school after the WJC. Snow defended Okposo as is he supposed to and now we hope things work out better with Aaron Ness for both sides. Obviously if the Isles did have a major problem with the Gophers program they would not be selecting from their prospect pool which speaks to what Garth Snow thinks of Mr Lucia's program.
Lets just hope Don Lucia uses Aaron Ness where he should be playing but by this prospects own words in the article he is already looking ahead to the NHL and if the Islanders want to sign him he has the right to leave according to the rules.
Edmonton Journal: Jim Matheson has a few words about the reaction from Tyler Ennis who was drafted by Buffalo in round one about his friend Jared Spurgeon being drafted by New York in the sixth round and how they have been playing hockey together since childhood. Tyler Spurgeon plays on the Oilers farm team.
Point Blank: Mr Botta gave his take on the draft picks, the clubs strategy along with telling the fans he spoke to Garth Snow Saturday as he had some advice for the Isles on how the media should have been done surrounding the picks.
In a quick recap of the weekends trades involving players:
Florida traded C Olli Jokinen to Phoenix for D Keith Ballard, D Nick Boynton and Ottawa’s second-round pick in the 2008 Entry Draft (49th overall, previously acquired).
NYI Fan Central Comments:
Olli would have been here forever at 2m per year with five cup rings by now if we kept him. Second team he unofficially had to be traded from or requested out of as he now plays for his fourth club and when his contract ends will be moving on to a fifth when he refuses to sign in Phoenix. What did Florida win again in that Islander trade besides a rebuild that never ends? I guess all those defenseman could mean Redden is not signing with Jacques Martin?
Columbus traded Colorado’s first-round pick in the 2008 Entry Draft (19th overall, previously acquired) and the Blue Jackets’ third-round pick in 2008 (67th overall) to Philadelphia for C R.J. Umberger and the Flyers’ fourth-round pick in 2008 (118th overall).
NYI Fan Central Comments:
Flyers free up cash for Jeff Carter and Eminger, Ken Hitchcock gets a former player for a pick that another club gave them. Not a bad deal for Howson to get R.J Hamburglar.
Calgary traded LW Alex Tanguay and its fifth-round pick in the 2008 Entry Draft (138th overall) to Montreal for the Canadiens’ first-round pick in 2008 (25th overall) and second-round pick in 2009.
NYI Fan Central Comments:
Alex Tanguay, moves to a new conference with a lot of mileage on him. I would rather have had the picks in this quality draft if I were Montreal.
From the I'm too lazy to post the link department, the comedy club at the
NY Post that forgot day two of the NHL draft:
Larry Brooks did his usual Cablevision Rangers are the league's American Flagship Franchise dance (after John Dellapina) and that Cablevision out of Msg control would leave New York without a hockey team as he did the impossible and actually took James Dolan's side over Gary Bettman.
Mr Brooks also claimed the Rangers lead American teams in revenue generated but of course fails to mention the same overhead it cost to generate that revenue had his favorite team 25m in the red according to his own New York Post before the lockout as it keeps raising ticket prices.
This was the low-end number folks with reports claiming they a league high forty million at the time.

CABLEVISION CUTS ITS LOSSES
By PAUL THARP
September 17, 2004 -- The owners of the perennially money-losing
Rangers hockey team are going to plug up a big red-ink hole with the
National Hockey League shutdown of the season.
The Rangers haven't made the playoffs in seven years or any profits
in years.
In fact, industry sources say the team loses between $25 million and
$30 million a year with its highly paid players and steep overhead in
Madison Square Garden arena.
With the team now on ice, owner Cablevision, controlled by media
mogul Chuck Dolan, won't have to write that many big checks for
hockey players.
It'll lose revenue, of course, from the 41 home games at the Garden,
but analysts say the typical $45 per seat for Ranger games is hardly
a drop in the bucket in Cablevision's fortunes.
**************************************************
For those who will respond and correctly point out this is not 2004 and we have a new cba according to this article a month ago Msg's sports teams lost 19m for the first quarter of 2008:
Newsday no longer has this link available:
http://www.newsday.com/sports/basketball/knicks/ny-spberger0511x,0,7646249.column
Money continues to burn hole in Garden's pockets
Ken Berger
9:13 PM EDT, May 10, 2008
So James Dolan must be thrilled with the early returns on his investment in Walsh. Attaboy, Donnie, you got your guy. The Knicks always get their guy. The problem has been that they keep getting the wrong ones.
When you add up the money given to these coaches and GMs -- not to mention the $11.5-million settlement to Anucha Browne Sanders and the hundreds of millions in bad player contracts doled out by Thomas and his predecessors -- it is not hard to fathom why MSG Sports (aka Cablevision's toy department) is bleeding red ink. According to the quarterly earnings statement furnished this week by the Garden's parent company, MSG and its sports teams lost a staggering $19.7 million in the first quarter.
**********************************************************
NYI Fan Central Comments:
Wonder if the Ranger lawsuits are included in that number between the one they settled on and the one they already lost to Gary Bettman?
Flagship American franchises for leagues are not completely ignored in their own town come playoff time nor do they go without any back pages during the regular season/playoffs or lose out by a three to one ratio for out of town basketball
games in their own market when they play head to head against another sport.
Flagship American franchise for a sport do not finish 24th and 36th for a Stanley Cup Final involving real American hockey marquee markets that consistently draw impressive ratings along with Buffalo and Minnesota.
Cablevision on ice had their stage without Knicks, Nets, Islanders or Tiger Woods after they eliminated New Jersey and had problems even competing with poker repeats in New York and did marginal at best nationally even with nothing but Crosby as the opposition. The media barely gave it any additional coverage.
Even the Islanders got Newsday back pages last season. Rangers did not see a full back page all winter again for an actual game, even Brian Leetch retirement night did not generate a full backpage over big market baseball rumors and the Giants super bowl.
As for Mr Brooks, wake me when Gary Bettman pulls the same stunts James Dolan has on New York City, Jets, Giants, Yankees, Mets, Islanders, and Devils and the general public with how many clubs he pulled off the air over the years?
You could sell a lot more actual tickets for James Dolan's expulsion hearing than the attendance Cablevison for Ranger home games when that day arrives.
Cheer up Mr Brooks, New York will still have a hockey team for you to cover if Dolan is removed and refuses to let the Rangers play in his basketball arena, keeping the naming rights, uniform and territorial rights.
That would be America's Flagship Hockey Dynasty and arguably hockey's greatest
all-time dynasty.
The New York Islanders.

For those who will respond and correctly point out this is not 2004 and we have a new cba according to this article a month ago Msg's sports teams lost 19m for the first quarter of 2008:

Money continues to burn hole in Garden's pockets
