New York Notables/Griffin Reinhart's Comments

New York Islander Fan Central | 6/28/2015 12:25:00 PM

The Oil Kings gm, Bob Green, who was quoted here often on Reinhart, felt he struggled in Bridgeport also, but has great faith/praise for Reinhart, and little doubt he will become an excellent NHL player.

Green had no criticism of the Islanders or Sound Tigers.

All due respect to Johnny Boychuk's brother, he is not a prospect expect despite being the relative of an NHL player on our team, as he says opinions are his own, no problem here.

Ct Post: Micheal Fornabaio gave his thoughts on Reinhart being traded, he covered more than half the games as teams beatwriter and was at daily practices since day one of the franchise.

NYIFC Comments:
newyorkislanderfancentralprospects.blogspot.com: Has been fully updated to include all drafted prospects from the class of 2015, and through the organization.

Folks know where I stand on this trade. Everyone should be rooting for Griffin Reinhart regardless, and for the Islanders two selections to become excellent NHL players. The Edmonton media will do what they did for Eric Brewer long ago if Reinhart shows anything, and there will be no Roman Hamrlik on this side as our return will likely be in juniors.

Notre Dame had it's graduation in May Robbie Russo is an UFA.

As for the defense:
This is a lot of signed defenders, not counting the UFA, and many more who need to be signed in two years.

Andong Misha Song-Freshman
Devon Toews-Junior
Mitchell Vande Sompel-Must be signed by 5/31/17
Parker Wotherspoon-Must be signed 5/31/17

Andong Misha Song:
My comments on the Andong Misha Song signing is it was in the Chinese papers on 6/20/15 which no one in North America seemed to notice besides myself, and made clear the Islanders had great interest in being the first to sign a Chinese player and make history.

The drafting of this player got world-wide attention (not in NYC) and publicity for the team they could not buy at any price so if he creates more interest, advertisers, and makes the club more money they absolutely should have done it as he develops.

Tons of teams sign family legacy players, you can bet a few late round picks have been for publicity purposes, Song's drafting had millions of people paying attention in another country.

The Islanders and Bruins swapped draft picks over dinner reservations when the draft was in Boston, and it was nine rounds in the late 90's.

Charles Wang was not at the draft table for the first time (perhaps ever) and is a minority owner in a year, he is not going to see revenue from this pick next season, with Trent Klatt's departure, he will not be part of this moving forward either.

Given the rankings of the players Klatt drafted where he got them he had a very good weekend, and Snow got him the picks.

What does that mean right now? Nothing. Go check 2008,09,10 draft classes for best answers.

New York Trades Griffin Reinhart For Mathew Barzal At 16th/33rd Overall

New York Islander Fan Central | 6/26/2015 08:53:00 PM

New York Trades Griffin Reinhart For 16th/33rd Overall New York selects: Mathew Barzal

Mathew Barzal Profile

Mynorthwest.com: Has a full interview with Mathew Barzal where the Islanders never spoke to him at the combine or prior to drafting him.

NYIFC Comments:
Frankly I'm very disappointed.

4th overall pick for a 16th/33rd. Big tough defenders with Reinhart's resume very tough to acquire, and impossible at his age. You want to put Reinhart, Hamonic, and Boychuk together and hammer away at teams, and anyone who saw Reinhart in the Memorial Cup saw a leader.

It took a horrible season and a lot of losing to get that #4 pick, now he's gone after one year in the organization?  No.

Perhaps it was made clear he needs more time in the AHL, and Reinhart/agent felt it's NHL or a trade so management accommodated him, who knows?

Sure it's a deep draft, but if you are playing to take the next step now, and Reinhart brings a veteran who dramatically improves the team who's signed for years you make that trade if the plan is to move him.

Edmonton did not give back Eberle (or one of their young scorers) who could have helped Tavares next season, and you can bet #91 is getting tired of wingers who are not first line players. (Conacher, Kulemin)

If you move Reinhart this fast, and take that gamble, you have to address that need.

They needed a restocking of forward prospects, after Dal Colle/Ho-Sang there was no franchise prospects up front. (especially in Bridgeport)

CBA Changes Benefit New York In Terms Of Drafting European Prospects

New York Islander Fan Central | 5/13/2014 10:24:00 AM
In the 2005 CBA, NHL Clubs had a two (2) year window, in which, they would retain the exclusive rights to sign a non-North American player on the drafting club's reserve list.

This two-year window was expanded to a four-year window in the most recent CBA.

Another change in the new CBA removed the requirement of providing a European player with a “Bona Fide Offer.” In the past when an NHL Club drafted a European player the club was required to extend a “Bona Fide Offer” after the first year in order to enjoy the exclusive rights for an additional year.

Now when an NHL club drafts a player who has played for a non-North American club, the NHL Club will have the exclusive rights to that player for a period of four (4) years regardless of whether the NHL club extends a “Bona Fide Offer” to the player.

NYIFC Comments:
Long story short, anyone drafted from a European team who remains there (not Russia with no transfer agreement) who's eighteen or nineteen, no longer requires the first year offer or needs to be signed by the end of their second year or they can re-enter the draft.

Example:
Ville Pokka 2012 draft pick from Europe=two years 5/31/2014
Viktor Crus Rydberg 2013 draft pick from Europe=four years 5/31/2017

Does this change anything regarding qualified David Ullstrom or not qualified Mikko Koskinen but listed on the Islanders website as a prospect or Kirill Petrov? No.

Edmonton Sun: Oil Kings win WHL Championship, Griffin Reinhart MVP

Oil Kings will play in the Memorial Cup this weekend.

NYIFC Comments:
The Edmonton Sun/Journal are working very hard creating trade senarios for New York to send him to Edmonton as part of trading up.

I want to see one where the Oilers 2015 first rounder/Taylor Hall come to New York.

Tavares, Okposo, Wang At Barclay's Center

New York Islander Fan Central | 4/02/2014 10:47:00 PM
Daily News: John Tavares, and Kyle Okposo were at the Barclay's Center for a Smile Train event Wednesday night 4/2/14, with Charles Wang, who both commented on a possible sale of the team.

John Tavares Wednesday at Smile Train's Power of a Smile Gala at Barclays Center:
“You don’t have any control over that stuff, so you try not to worry about it and just try to focus on doing what you’re supposed to do, preparing yourself to play, playing each day, and obviously in my case, doing everything I can in rehab.”

“Hopefully that stuff gets taken care of. It’s something that it’s always good to have that stability. Charles has provided that for a long time. If there’s a change, there’s a change, but I know how much he’s invested in this team and this organization, and we’re looking forward to the future.”

Kyle Okposo:
“That’s for management and ownership to figure out,” he said. “Charles is gonna do what he thinks is best and what’s in his interest. We as players, we just have to go play the game. We can’t let that stuff worry us.”

NYIFC Comments:
Not like the Daily News has the budget to cover these things called hockey games, Mike Milbury's corporate bicycle still works for something to help the News reach the coverage cap floor with the AP.

Not a classic in Ottawa, but the kids (looked tired) keep winning. 14-4-2 last twenty road games.

Edmonton Journal: Oil Kings Head Coach, Derek Laxdal had comments on Ryan Pulock and Griffin Reinhart.

That would be former Islander player, Derek Laxdal for those scoring at home.

Pulock/Reinhart also comment.

Record Does Not Reflect New York's Struggles In Games

New York Islander Fan Central | 10/11/2013 08:47:00 AM
Please understand everyone wants the team to win, and you take October points, however Jack Capuano's comments say it all in how this team has struggled.

I will not do cheer-leading here, it's about getting back to the team in April 2013, during those four weeks that limited chances/shots around twenty five, with the other team pinned in by skating/hard work, and a different line creating quality goals every game.

That team wore down it's opposition by skating/board work.

This team is nowhere close to that right now.

Instead Jack Capuano's team has largely been outplayed, outskated, outworked in games. The scoreboard has not reflected the play beyond Nabokov carrying the club which is likely not to last.

This team should be 1-2. If Phoenix did not implode that 6-1 result is likely far different.

The power-play needs a calendar to set up a quality chance, usually from the perimeter. Visnovsky is not a player who drives the net. What can I write about Nielsen/Okposo from the outside I have not written before? They are trying their hardest.

Sure, everyone's happy Matt Donovan scored, it was a poor goal allowed by Mike Smith, the three pass goal by Bailey was amazing, more Coyote struggles.

The rest is watching Nabokov carry the club, and them being pressured in their own end of the ice. They absolutely miss Mark Streit's ability to move the puck, find skaters cutting to net, and quarterbacking the powerplay.

The past decision making suggests Brock Nelson takes a seat for Cal Clutterbuck, but it could be Bouchard, maybe Cizikas. We'll know soon enough.

Ok, we'll see. Hoping for the best version of this team, but don't expect this level of play to be any kind of answer, maybe they are simply not ready yet.

Understandable for October if ugly points keep coming, many teams are finding themselves, but this club will be losing 5-1 games soon if these trends persists.

Notables:
* Nielsen is now 0-7 in shootout attempts, his last goal coming 3/2/13.

*Mikko Koskinen (listed as prospect by Islanders website despite not being qualified) left SEL where he's signed  through 2014-15, and now is in KHL.

*Griffin Reinhart was not happy at all upon arrival in Edmonton, or not getting a chance here in a game. I posted his comments on twitter with article link.

*Once again Msg Network is acting as if  Brooklyn does not exist or never happened.

*If this team continues to draw an announced 10,000 (which looks like 7,000) Wang/Picker should ask Dolan to black home all home games unless 14,000 seats sold forty eight hours in advance.

People showed up with only road coverage on channel 9 long ago, perhaps that's what it takes?

Most ignored the thousands of empty seats Tuesday which is inexcusable. This website was very hard on the fan base all summer over this issue.

The NHL is not going to permit this to continue when this team moves to Barclay's center.

* NIFA's meeting portal for live meetings now working, they met Sept 9th at Charles Wang's hotel with NEC Ratner agreement on menu, apparently because it's a full financed deal it does not require their approval which contradicts Mangano's comments, and it being listed in their meeting packet page 30-34 pdf.

The full October 9th meeting now can be viewed here.

* No local professional newspaper coverage links will be part of New York Islander Fan Central, that ended long ago.

* The NY Post sending a part-time writer to a regular season game in Chicago, outside NY area since Evan Grossman was beat-writer many years ago does not change anything here until all 82 games are covered with complete quoted articles.

* Espn again insults our fans intelligence holding onto interviews for six days or longer as was done with Tavares/Mark Streit a year ago. Matt Moulson was interviewed a week ago on 10/4 in Newark.

It was finally posted on 10/10.

Espn sent Katie Strang to Philadelphia to cover the Flyers over the Islanders at home on 10/8, she wrote three quick paragraphs (more than usual) with no quotes on the win against Phoenix, a long article on the Rangers latest loss with no quotes on 10/17.

Now Espn permanently goes off our radar here, that's not professional or worth our time.

* Minor tweaks to pages/prospect blog, more prospect  newspaper coverage added. Blogger having link issues so currently limited in what can be done. Added Stockton radio links.

New York Sends Reinhart To Juniors/Seven Defenders Remain

New York Islander Fan Central | 10/09/2013 12:35:00 PM |
Islanders website: announced that defenseman Griffin Reinhart has been returned to his junior club, the Edmonton Oil Kings of the Western Hockey League.

NYIFC Comments:
That leaves New York with one extra defender in Matt Carkner before having to recall someone from Bridgeport whether it be Joe Finley, Aaron Ness, Calvin deHaan or one of the rookies on that roster.

Joe Finley cleared waivers, he would not require waivers again to be recalled.

A trade or another contract to Radek Martinek can always become a possibility.

New York Notables

New York Islander Fan Central | 10/02/2012 07:22:00 AM
Islander website has several updates/video on Bridgeport camp, along with new head coach, Scott Pellerin.

The Hour: Has a four part article on Matt Moulson with his comments.

NYIFC Comments:
This publication has been added to the prospect blog, the updates infrequent, but very high quality.

Ct Post: Has a feature on Anders Nilsson, and how he recovered from his March injuries.

Und.com: Reports Islander prospect, Anders Lee has been named captain for 2012-13 season.

NYIFC Comments:
Quite an honor for a junior player in Lee. Head coach, Jeff Jackson is a former Islanders assistant coach.

Calgary Herald: Reports Griffin Reinhart is not the only player in the family who will be drafted in the future with Max, who is a Calgary Flames prospect.

Associated Press: Reports The operators of New York's Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum have been cited for 16 violations of workplace health and safety standards which Smg will contest bur claims have been addressed.

NYIFC Comments:
This is not a New York Islander issue. Repairs to x dollar amount fall on Smg, major repairs fall on Nassau County. It should be noted Smg does have Jerry Goldman listed as the Coliseum's general manager.

New York Islander Fan Central wrote about the change on 3/5 along with speculation of possible change in Isles sublease status which has not been reported.

Bottom line there is if Wang/Rechler opted out of the December 2009 sublease, the only contractual issue keeping the Isles at the Coliseum would be Nassau County not allowing the club to move per terms of their original lease or what it's been for decades.

Bridgeport's prospects are at his Marriott hotel, while the players work out at Iceworks.

Griffin Reinhart Will Wear #4 For New York.

New York Islander Fan Central | 9/08/2012 10:41:00 PM
Edmonton Sun: Reports Islander top draft pick, Griffin Reinhart, was given uniform #4 (which he also wore for prospect camp game) had a very funny response when asked about another #4, who played for New York in Jean Potvin.
