1000 For Bailey Goal/6-2 New York win at Carolina

NHL.com with a nice feature and Bailey's goal on video for Friday's 6-2 win at Carolina. His 6/20/2008 draft articles are in the archives here, but I cannot put up a working link on-line besides some old third party site here.
This tweet will bring you to 6/21/08 at this site, it's on same page.

Bellows on waivers/Claimed by Flyers

New York Islander Fan Central | 10/26/2022 04:43:00 PM |

Obviously someone wants to play, given production of many aging veterans, and comments made after camp about how he should play regularly, it's seems very odd, a young power forward should go over any of these veterans. Could be a paper transaction to get Salo his spot back also.

Bottom line this season is going to be what I expected or worse if this continues. Every team should force them to win a high scoring game, and the recent losses, the opposing teams (Tampa/Florida) hardly needed to be good with their backups starting & Devils with their young speed/skating took them to school.

Salo sent to Bridgeport

New York Islander Fan Central | 10/22/2022 06:36:00 PM |

Could be weekend paperwork to get Aho off IR. Salo's been good, there has been a slight drop from preseason when he's playing against everyone's NHL players, but problems are not on defense with this roster.

A Few Very Early Comments/Corrections

Lane Lambert's First Win

New York Islander Fan Central | 10/15/2022 11:31:00 PM |

Odd win with all the defenseman scoring, and many veterans clearing struggling. They have to make the move with Parise/Palmieri who checked Barzal who looked alone on his line. Bad opponent having a bad night, but changing out Romanov, Salo for Chara/Greene makes them so much better on the point. Time to have the talk with Parise, move Palmieri, put Bellows/Wahlstrom in and leave them in. What's coming after San Jose/Devils (and they need two wins badly there) is not going to happen unless forwards who don't produce start scoring. They have the goalie in Sorokin. People throwing shade at Barry Trotz is comical, this forward group even tonight was struggling. Wahlstrom got a nice pass from Pageau, Pulock found Beauviller for the right kind of chance that made Gibson move.

The Failed Belmont Experiment: A history/review

New York Islander Fan Central | 10/14/2022 12:49:00 PM |

Why are we here at a location that's flat out awful on every level besides Dolan wanted an arena in Nassau County, and lost the Coliseum with an AHL Ranger logo/NHL Ranger home preseason games in Nassau Coliseum to Ratner in 2013 because he wanted the entire HUB development/plaza with tax exemptions?

An area not built for an arena because the highway is on one end, & the racetrack is on the other with stables, plus over a thousand 24/7 workers. A parking garage no one can get in/out off because trip across Hempstead Turnpike to enter the garage from CIP off-ramp is a commute in itself. Outdoor parking a 1/2 mile away in elements with trains that don't arrive. An isolated/desolate location completely unsuited to house anything but a racetrack that's empty besides one day a year. The failed experiment at Belmont. Worst location besides moving further east with 2,000 season tickets out of 2.6 million vs being where we need to be back in NYC. The arena was finished late, Leiweke took preseason money for 2020-21.

I could have posted 50 more tweets with complaints.

Why are 29 teams in cities, two want city arena's, while NYI move back to a proven failed suburb (twice) to play in an arena where Dolan's a major share holder, while his Oakview/Silverlake guys Leiweke/Azoff run it, book it and have exclusive access most of year. (110 event days and more) Boston Bruins/Delaware North run concessions with re-re branded Smg, & Wilpons did actual construction with their company Sterling, & facility is filled with Dolan's Msg employees like Hank Abate while one NYI employee was moved out for a new President in Kim Stone recently.

NYI are at Belmont because Dolan wanted the Coliseum he lost to Ratner in 2013, before it's renovation was done in 2015-16 he was reminding Cuomo (who gave Dolan billions at Chase Garden/tax exemptions/tripled with renovation in 2013) what Newsday/News12LI and his friends can do to Cuomo's campaign contributions/re-election chances as he tried to do at LA Forum vs Clippers when he lost a facility he bought/renovated. Dolan needed his best friend Wang who had every plan for Coliseum trampled by Dolan's Newsday but did what he was told in 2016 as outgoing majority owner despite NYI strong start at Barclay's (13.6k avg playing Mondays/14.2k after 12/2/15) & Nets gaining on Knicks in NYC despite their terrible Brooklyn branding getting NYC back/front pages & now a major NYC team who can sign star players with state of art facilities. Dolan wanted his Belmont Coliseum/and renovated one gone, and NYI out of NYC. Wang did what he was told because not even Cuomo's corrupt ESD could get Dolan a Belmont arena without NYI initial consent to move there. Once it was approved NYI were a lame duck Belmont tenant again by time ground breaking was done/never more movable at any time for 86.25 million today.

Barclays: Despite my endless 24/7 praise, never wrote Barclay's was perfect/and no Prokhorov was not going to renew an agreement where they pay NYI 55 million, they were welcome to stay but had to pay their own way, but by Summer 2016 Dolan had Belmont on his front-page, Queens or a Barclay's renovation was not viable for Dolan's Newsday & media spindoctors & it was not even a consideration to stay. The Fisherman crew 2,000 strong who don't deserve an ECHL team in Nassau/Suffolk or remember what that logo stood for, which infuriated our alumni complained at Barclay's & did not support the team in the renovated Coliseum with a first place/max payroll/winning team. The bottom line Barclay's is the right location for NYI and plenty of room to continue growing what was working, a renovation would have happened sooner or later. Who cares if they sat on floor. Bettman could had approved older rink dimensions and that would have fixed most of the seating issues without costing anything.

Now we play at an arena that does one thing right, pretend the building is in Manhattan. Beyond that it's a joke and that 86.25 million out clause will be used sooner then later by Malkin.

Failed Belmont experiment issues/short-version.

Bag/wallet policies. (multiple)

No tailgate/honking because of horses/fires/stables/neighbors. Many people mock rules openly.

Handicapped parking issues, fans mock them also.

Emrald, Silver, Diamond, Ruby, Spano, Milstein lot's, super expensive & massive outdoor walks not counting walk to value retail which makes it a mile, hockey fans won't go there for this 24/7 location when a hotel opens in 3-5 years.

Between NYRA massive renovations coming, grandstand, Value Retail site, hotel, that's a construction site for years, likely past when Malkin sells and NYI relocate again.

Horrible highway/street access, that's why it was never developed for decades.

So-called atmosphere goes out sides of building/patio/low roof obstructs press box/scoreboard view/most of seats downstairs not near roof so no noise to hit the roof from empty seats in top deck. Why did they not construct a taller building in the very tiny footprint available? NYRA did not want racetrack hidden & nixed first hotel plan next to grandstand? NYRA/Azoff's music acts are the true anchor tenant's at that site.

Commute to arena from parking lot LIRR.

No standing behind benches during warmups, just behind goals.

Cashless arena/grab & go, touch and maybe charged later or good luck fighting that on credit card.

Slow bathroom lines for men/how many ladies bathrooms were really needed?

No leg room in upper level, people have to stand up for someone to get by.

Rumored smoke free outside in 2022-23.

All lanterns still not insalled from constuction a year ago, were floors ever tiled upstairs, what else hidden?

Legacy Brick wall first advertised 5/11/22

Jaroslav Halak mural in lobby painting?

Staff hired seasonal just before 1st game, same as Bridgeport job fair on 10/4 which Oakview runs.

No locker room images/facilities every arena ever opened showcased their locker room, pandemic restictions gone reporters in room with teams again.
Correction-you can enter garage from both sides of building on side street. TBD if long line to enter from highway off-ramp.
Commute is so far away no in arena practices, no gameday skate there, road team goes there, has morning skate/advantage.

Team lives at Northwell besides games themselves, that's not normal, making Barclay's home in first half of 2015-16 for everything with day rooms worked & team had a home they got used to/made playoffs finally free of cap floor in a city. Tavares asked to stop Barclay's morning skates in Jan 2016 & Snow agreed, now they can't go to NYC border which has no five star hotel/day rooms for millionaires.

Only images from Aurora Contractors this week on massive retail village, hidden entirely by team/Dolan's media while NYRA tunnel spammed 24/7.

Well hidden Belmont Value Retail Village, does Malkin even make money or have ownership here before he sells NYI and Dolan's Oakview gain 41 more dates for concerts?

Leiweke ran out of Belmont for his next arena conquest as he took over Pittsburgh & wants a third Vegas Arena (plus Dolan's Msg globe) while NYI stuck at failed experiment. Vegas has fraction of NY popultion, how fast will he throw that fake siren Tonelli used be thrown in the trash because Yormark made that change the next day from the MTA horn from 2015-16 preseason? Updated-the not 1970's-80's-90's siren was put in trash in ceremony on teams website.

NYIFC Projection: 13th in East...unless forward changes.

For those who follow this site I was very negative at end of 2019-20 for a reason. The team ran out of gas in March 2020, they don't qualify for a bogus Covid Cup tournament in Canada if the 68 games played turn out to be 82, and they don't get a three month break. After that they got older/slower and gave out bad contracts to medicore veterans like Pageau who score 30 points on avgerage, and lost Toews who got 16 million from Colorado.

Then we have the 56 games where if Buffalo's great start is not killed by Covid, the NYI which got a second training camp at the end of January 2021 already under 500. return to play Buffalo who was sick/struggling/never found their game again, NYI don't go to first place, then collapse again at the end of 2020-2021 with an 0-12-1 record on road against Washington, Pens, Caps before Sorokin stole Pens series, and they got past Bruins in another tournament. Then Palmieri comes in to do what third line playoff/tournament rentals do, then are badly overpaid at far too old an age. Goodbye Eberle, Leddy. Hello older/slower Parise, Greene, Chara with an aging core.

2021-22 they go 5-6-2 thanks to Sorokin only & are already eliminated before the failed Belmont experiment even opens at late as it did. Parise, Bailey, Palmieri, Pageau rarely scored in first half. Chara was played like he was 28. Teams smothered aging core in all zones, and Trotz was right in early November, our playoffs are now, they kept losing, then the entire team got sick at Belmont, and no way were our owners or opposing teams giving up revenue/easy wins. By December Wings faded but Bruins grabbed 8th seend opened up a 20 point lead on NYI, and it was 55 games of garbage time. Lou acted like season was a throw away, not for NHL's best coach who got the blame for Lamoriello's signings (and re-signings) almost never scoring in first half, while Chara/Greene were traffic cones who could not get the puck to aging forwards, and had no chance in their own end vs young/skilled stars on other teams who can fly.

By March Lou made his 2023 forward decisions, more contract extensions to declining veterans. Virtually the same forward group returning. We had our forward group for 2022-23. So how does older/slower/not scoring produce with Trotz assistant who has no experience in top job? Answer it likely does not happen. The defense is much, much better, Sorokin is best goalie in NHL, but five players have to protect the goalie and far too many veteran forwards are long past their prime. Salo finally replaces Leddy who can fly and has poise with puck, Romanov replaces Chara, Dobson hopefully keeps improving. Pelech needs a better year, Pulock needs to be the defender he was in second half when he got healthy. Mayfield's contract year off Snow's last deal with him.

Overall don't see forwards this old/who won't score get back, put on pressure in the offensive zone, or stop young prime dynamic players, and group of bad teams for many years have stocked up. (not Flyers) Last year's 9th place finish drops NYI back to 13th with a real race for final seeds.

New York will not be there unless Lou follows through on his promise and fires those "on-notice" forwards who got long-term deals by ten game mark. Pageau, Bailey, Cizikas, Palmieri, Clutterbuck, Martin, Johnston, while they take chances with Dufour, Raty, Holmstrom, and take reigns off Bellows/Wahlstrom or make a deal to get Barzal the scoring/skating forward he needs. Don't expect Nelson to have that shooting percentage again or 40 goals.

Sorokin will hold them in but he can't steal this many 2-1 games and this offense unless Wahlstrom/Bellows produce like young stars.

Unless callups promoted to NHL and surprises another 4 goals 41 games for Parise/vets and another long season. Belmont will be empty either way unless Sat games help, and it won't produce 12,000 because parking/high prices not for Nassau crew, win or lose. Belmont is for Dolan/cronies/NYI just a hidden tennant.

Last year I projected 12th, now it goes to 13th because teams below them improved, and many now ready to contend.

Andy Greene has retired, one day contract with Devils.

10.10.22 Lamoriello 5:30 pm press conference/All waivers cleared....

New York Islander Fan Central | 10/10/2022 02:14:00 PM |

Mayfield sick, not injured expected to play Thursday. Clutterbuck sore, skating on his own, not considered long term. Salo 6th defender.

Final roster today 5pm. A few more cuts even if Mayfield, Cultterbuck go on IR.

Ladue, Hutton, Koivula cleared waivers.

At some point Lamoriello's full press conference will be posted here, likely later tonight when full version on NYI website.

New York Islander Fan Central | 10/05/2022 02:51:00 PM |

Parker Wotherspoon Cory Schneider Dennis Cholowski Hudson Fasching Arnaud Durandeau Cole Bardreau Andy Andreoff
Seems Clutterbuck, perhaps Mayfield are now injured already. #24 is their last major UFA but injuries may buy Lamoriello time before one of Hutton, Aho have to go on waivers or Lamoriello refuses to lose either one and demotes Robin Salo, who would not have to require waivers.

I don't think Lamoriello wants to lose anyone for nothing after he locked up Aho for two years/Hutton for three.

Offensively barring more injuries what you got at the trade deadline is what you will see. A lot of non-scorers or aging players need career seasons that don't seem possible as young stars will skate rings around them in all three zones vs what will be a much improved New York defense.
