Is New York A Playoff Team? Unlikely

New York Islander Fan Central | 7/30/2024 06:43:00 AM |

Sorry but not going to write much from here unless something happens. We have fans at the THN and bloggers who will take anything like betting odds, and sites throwing predictions at the walls to write anything for their resume, daily, you know that's never been the case here.

I did the roster in my previous post. They are slightly improved without Martin/Clutterbuck in the skating department, but there are still so many slow, soft players, who are bad in transition, bad along walls or unproven players, and it's not a team that will fight. It's hard to see a third year in a row where the eighth seed is only 12 over when the traditional cut is 15-20 over. I do think Devils, Wings, and Flyers who fell apart at the end will be improved, and someone in the group of teams who never qualify will make a jump forward.

How many more games where they give up 40+ shots, have periods where they allow 20+ shots, with worst pk in NHL have to happen before some tough choices are made with contracts not movable? Teams know they crumble and give up goals in bunches when pressed. And teams know there are major issues when Casey Cizikas is a first line left wing in playoff games.

Tell me why Bo Horvat is a nice player but hardly a franchise star will be better? Many goals against he was poor in transition, he hardly takes over games, even with Barzal next to him. Lee, and the dead weight in Palmieri, Cizikas, Pageau, Fasching, MacLean how are they going to put up the numbers necessary to keep them in contention?

I'm not a Patrick Roy fan, who barely matched Lambert, and walked from a job off his one good season as a coach. They hired an assistant who has not worked in the NHL in sixteen years, who did not even seem to be Roy's hand-picked coach.

Sorokin had five years worth of work the last three years, he was burned out from the lack of speed among the forwards. Varlamov did what Sorokin did the previous year to get them the 7th seed. Can Sorokin carry them or is his prime used up?

Is Dobson a victim of the slow forwards or his own gaffe's? Both. He's getting big money from someone. Pelech/Dobson get big money with no forward's help, and they are overworked. Romanov same thing with forwards back checking. Reily is signed, Mayfield will be back, Pens got Aho's skating which will help them.

Every year I wrote get crooked numbers, don't lose in regulation, the strategy got them a ton of overtime/shootout losses but a playoff spot that I don't see happening again.

That's where I am on 7/30/24.

Cholowski/Wahlstrom Signed

New York Islander Fan Central | 7/25/2024 06:08:00 AM |

Cholowsi will not appear on the prospect site at age 26, but this is a New York/NHL two-way contract.

Wahlstrom got a one year deal-they now need to lose a contract with the cap.

Liam Foudy background.
I'm not seeing a lot that stands out here for a 24 year old journeyman.

He was claimed by Nashville at one point, and does have speed.

New York goes cheap/only franchise no prospect camp

New York Islander Fan Central | 7/08/2024 01:08:00 AM |

Before Covid they had prospect camps every summer, before moving to Barc they had them on their shoestring budgets at Iceworks. Covid is over at this time, all teams bring their prospects in for a brief camp, many teams will have tournaments. Our team will have their mini-camp where all the Boston drafted propsects in September cannot attend because they were in school or their teams seasons have started.

Why is our team not using Northwell, that awful failed experiment at Belmont that is costing two billion by the time everything promised is done sitting next to the Belmont rubble as that fell forever this weekend? Oh yes, the more astute fans know prospects have to pay their own way to get to a prospect came, so John Collins SPAC does not pay. Where is Lamoriello and our minimal coaching staff not demanding a camp so our prospects get familiar with the training of an NHL player like everyone else is doing while Iskhakov told the team thanks but no thanks with his qualifying offer?

Bridgeport Notables/Prospect Site

New York Islander Fan Central | 7/03/2024 08:05:00 PM |
Bridgeport is signing some players, many are not New York Islander players or drafted prospects.
One-way NHL contracts (full salary) or two way NHL contracts (one salary in NHL/one in minors) are NHL contracts. Bridgeport/Worcester only signings are not NHL signings, and would require a New York Islanders contract to become an NHL player. Players 25/younger are listed on the prospect site here who have New York contracts. AHL-ECHL only players can sign with an NHL team at any time.

Justin Gill was drafted in 2023, the NYI own his NHL rights, but he signed an AHL contract only with Bridgeport. Next summer he must have an NHL contract or his NHL rights status would change to UFA.

Schedule Released/Aho To Pittsburgh/Karlstrom One Way NHL/Gatcom Two Way Deal signed

New York Islander Fan Central | 7/02/2024 02:19:00 PM |
Karlstrom is an NHL signing from Dallas who is on the New York Islanders website here.
Marc Gatcomb is the second signing/2-way contract here.

Duclair Four Years Signed/Reilly Back.

New York Islander Fan Central | 7/01/2024 04:22:00 PM |

How many times at the deadline did I write they should have traded for Duclair vs losing him to Tampa, and got Cizikas on the 4th line or in the stands. Supposedly a four year deal for Duclair. Reilly, got one year, that's plenty, agree with both signings.
